Consumables should be restocked immediately after any use, and proactively inspected every 6 months for expiration dates. Nitrile gloves, tape, and similar items have 2–5 year shelf lives under normal storage conditions. Medications and sterile items have specific expiration dates that must be observed. Establish a rotation schedule — first-in, first-out — to ensure the freshest items are always used. After-action restocking immediately following training or deployment keeps kits mission-ready without delay.

For tactical medical use, the most versatile tapes are: Leukotape P (rigid sports/strapping tape, excellent for securing dressings and wound closure in wet conditions), Elastikon (elastic adhesive bandage, conforms to joints, used for wrap dressings), and 100mph tape / duct tape variants (general-purpose, equipment repair, and improvised splinting). For IV line securement and delicate skin, Transpore or Tegaderm is preferred. Carry at least two tape types in any comprehensive kit — a rigid securing tape and a conforming elastic tape for different applications.

TCCC guidelines (as of the most recent JTS update) include a non-prescription analgesic component — Meloxicam and Tylenol (acetaminophen) are the current TCCC PO analgesic recommendations for non-critical casualties who can swallow. Aspirin is used for suspected cardiac events. Antacids, antihistamines, and anti-diarrheal agents (Imodium) are appropriate for extended field care kits. All medication selection and administration should be based on appropriate training and, where required, standing orders or medical oversight.
