Why transition to a new ALiEM Cards site?
We have always tried to keep the user and learner in mind. From a readability, design, and content delivery perspective, our index card look was becoming outdated.
- The limited text space negatively impacted our ability to easily convey the content in a clear fashion.
- The topics and keywords within each card were not searchable. You just had to know where things were.
- PDFs are often large-sized files and not easy to read on mobile devices.
- The new ALiEM Cards site incorporates the use of GitHub, which allows for better version control. We can more transparently update and incorporate crowdsourced feedback and peer review. This was not possible with the older PV Cards system.

What will we be stopping?
As part of this transition period, we are announcing the following:
- No more new content will be written in the “PV Card” PDF format.
- We are closing out the PV Card Evernote and Dropbox shared account options.
Beta Phase
The site is still in a beta phase and we want your feedback. Please look under the hood and kick the tires. What do you like? What would make the cards more useful for you? Let us know who you are, how you use the cards, and what would make them better via our contact form.
Want to Get Involved?
Do you want to get involved with the ALiEM Cards project by editing or authoring a card? The new site has a formal process for getting involved. Check out the instructions and some tutorials on our GitHub project page wiki. We want to continue building a community around these cards that we all rely on.
Upcoming
The design and iteration of the ALiEM Cards website are also part of a broader academic project. We are trying to use a design thinking approach in the creation and iteration of a point-of-care medical resource. Keep an eye out for qualitative and descriptive analyses of this project in the future.
