Posted by Marco Torres on

In this 17-minute presentation from Rebellion in EM 2021, Dr. Jennifer Carnell, MD demonstrates how ultrasound can be used to make a diversity of diagnoses in patients with right upper quadrant pain beyond ultrasound’s expected use in the diagnosis of gallbladder/biliary pathology.

  2. Participants will be able to discuss ultrasound findings in cardiac tamponade, pulmonary embolism, heart failure and lower lobe pneumonia

Presentation Outline

  • 4 clinical cases of right upper quadrant pain
    • Acute Exacerbation of Heart Failure: Ultrasound findings – B lines, poor LV EF, plethoric IVC
    • Pulmonary Embolism: Ultrasound findings – Trace pleural effusion, dilated right heart/right heart strain, plethoric IVC
    • Cardiac Tamponade: Ultrasound findings – Pericardial fluid, right ventricular diastolic collapse, plethoric IVC
