Welcome new ALiEM-CORD Fellow Dr. Sameed Shaikh

Michelle Lin, MD |

It is with great pleasure that announce our inaugural 2014-15 ALiEM-CORD Fellow for Social Media and Digital Scholarship, Dr. Sameed Shaikh, from Sinai-Grace Emergency Medicine Residency Program/Detroit Medical Center. As a PGY-2, he already has an impressive multimedia skill set, including website design, video editing, photography, and electronic music composition. He is currently using his skills for good rather than evil at his residency program to match medical education and medicine in general with currently available technological solutions.

In the end, Dr. Nikita Joshi (Fellowship Director) and I just decided, “he just gets it.”

Shaikh Sameed

Sameed’s proposed projects will include the continued encouragement of EM leaders about the importance of social media in medical education as we become more globalized in our professional career and networks. He also has scholarly aspirations to further explore the area of open-access journals and FOAM, as well as the importance of visual design and multimedia to efficiently convey information in modern practices.

As exciting as the news about Sameed, we are also sad to have to turn down the others. If it were humanly possible possible, we would have brought ALL of them on our team. All of the ideas were extremely promising. We hope that they re-apply in the future, or connect with us down the road even if it is to say howdy. We are always happy to serve as a sounding board.

Please help us in welcoming Sameed to our ALiEM team!
