Members and mentors of the inaugural, 2016-17 ALiEM Faculty Incubator authored 9 narrative reviews in the Academic Primer Series and Curated Collections for Educators on several important medical education topics, which highlight the most important literature and their defined importance for junior educators and faculty developers. To ensure broad compendiums of articles were obtained on each subject, collections of papers were augmented via an open call for additional papers using Twitter. Subsequently, a selection panel comprised of both junior and seasoned educators utilized a 3-round modified Delphi process to identify the best, most relevant papers for medical educators.
Academic Primer Series and Curated Collections for Educators
Over the past academic year, these papers have been published in 2 different peer-reviewed, open-access medical journals. They have been published as the Academic Primer Series in the Western Journal of Emergency Medicine, and Curated Collections for Educators in Cureus, an online, open access journal.
These unique, resourceful articles provide narrative reviews and define the importance of some of the most impactful articles in the education literature related to these 9 topics in medical education. All are encouraged to use them as a valuable resource in their education repertoires and perhaps their professional development. Similarly, these articles also provide a comprehensive list of literature on each topic through the review of the reference sections; therefore, allowing educators to increase both their academic archives and their familiarity with the literature.
