ALiEM Chief Resident Incubator: Mentoring the Future Leaders in EM

Michelle Lin, MD |

We at ALiEM are incredibly excited to publicly announce the 2015-16 ALiEM Chief Resident (CR) Incubator. Every single year, I have seen Chief Residents struggle with their new role as a near-peer leader in the residency program. Because Chief Residents are generally high-functioning individuals, they usually figure it out as the year progresses. Why is it that we can’t we do better and prepare them for what is to come?

ALiEM Chief Resident Incubator

The Incubator consists of an all-star group of educators, leaders, and mentors in Emergency Medicine who deliver core curricular content and participate in an virtual online community to foster administrative, education, and leadership skills needed to be a successful Chief Resident.

Incubator Leadership Team

  • Adaira Chou, MD: Co-Chair and Chief Operations Officer (NYU-Bellevue Hospital)
  • Michael Gisondi, MD: Co-Chair and Chief Strategy Officer (Northwestern University)
  • Nikita Joshi, MD: Advisory Board and ALiEM Fellowship Director (Stanford University)
  • Michelle Lin, MD: Advisor Board and ALiEM Editor-in-Chief (UC San Francisco)

As a Chief Resident, why should you join?

Featured Virtual Mentors

We were incredibly selective in inviting quality mentors for each month. We are excited to confirm the following month-long virtual mentors:

  • James Adams (Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine)
  • Felix Ankel, MD (Healthpartners Institute / Regions Hospital)
  • Diane Birnbaumer, MD (Harbor-UCLA Medical Center)
  • Laleh Gharahbaghian, MD (Stanford University)
  • Jeff Riddell, MD (University of Washington)
  • Michael Stone, MD (Brigham & Women’s Hospital)
  • Anand Swaminathan, MD (New York University / Bellevue Medical Center)
  • Additional secret mentors!

Goodbye boring listserv. Welcome Slack!

Slack-iconSlack, despite its informal name, is an incredibly powerful digital communication platform that has completely revolutionized how the ALiEM Editorial Board works and is the primary means of communication for many technology companies. It has been described as “team communication for the 21 century” and efficiently transforms how teams work. Part of its functionality is that it is very mobile-device friendly. Participation in Slack itself will be the CRs’ first lesson in excelling in the new academic world of digital media and virtual collaborations. Instead of an email listserv, the CRs will be communicating, sharing, and working together in a private Incubator account.

You can read more details and how to sign up on the Incubator page.
