Best Use of Technology To Enhance Medical Education

Winner: University of British Columbia Radiology Teaching App

About: This incredibly innovative and user-friendly mobile app (free for download both at iOS and Android) was developed in 2016 to improve medical student radiology instruction. Using validated teaching methodologies, the app now includes over 500 anatomy-based questions featuring multiple types of imaging modalities and over 60 clinical cases.

Most Innovative Educator

Winner: Dr. Dimitri Papanagnou (@dimitripapa)

About: Dr. Papanagnou is Assistant Dean for Faculty Development, Vice Chair of Education, and Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Jefferson University. His programming and teaching focuses on patient safety and quality, simulation, and interprofessional education. He was recently awarded a $1.2 million AHRQ grant as a co-investigator of a project that will leverage computerized modules, simulation, and deliberate practice to help EM residents develop skills to communicate diagnostic uncertainty to patients during transitions in care.
