What makes the OLAES® Modular Bandage different from a standard Israeli dressing?

The OLAES® (One-Handed Low-Profile Bandage) is a modular pressure dressing that stores a plastic occlusive sheet in its dressing pocket — enabling the medic to use it as a wound packing and pressure dressing, or to extract the occlusive plastic sheet as an improvised chest seal for penetrating thoracic wounds. Standard Israeli/ETD-style bandages do not include this integrated chest seal component, meaning a kit relying on standard ETDs alone lacks a dedicated occlusive capability. The OLAES® effectively replaces two separate items with one, maximizing IFAK space efficiency.

What does Berry Amendment and TAA Compliant mean for the Operator IFAK?

Berry Amendment compliance means the tactical pouch is manufactured in the United States from U.S.-origin textiles — a requirement for military procurement under 10 U.S.C. § 2533a. TAA (Trade Agreements Act) compliance means the medical contents are sourced from designated countries meeting U.S. trade agreement requirements. Together, these designations allow law enforcement agencies, military units, and government contractors to procure the Operator IFAK under federal acquisition regulations without country-of-origin waivers.

Does the TacMed™ Operator IFAK include a chest seal?

The Operator IFAK does not include a dedicated standalone chest seal. However, the OLAES® 4" Modular Bandage included in the kit features a plastic occlusive sheet stored in its dressing pocket that can be used as an improvised chest seal for penetrating thoracic wounds. This multipurpose design allows the kit to address chest wounds without carrying a dedicated chest seal, maintaining the kit's compact footprint. For operators who prefer a dedicated commercial chest seal, MED-TAC International carries standalone chest seals in the Chest/Thoracic Supplies collection.

What NPA size is included in the TacMed™ Operator IFAK?

The Operator IFAK includes a Nasopharyngeal Airway (NPA) sized 28 French (28F) with lubricant. A 28F NPA is appropriate for average-sized adult casualties and is among the most commonly stocked sizes in military and tactical IFAK configurations. The NPA is CoTCCC-recommended for airway management in unconscious or semi-conscious casualties who cannot maintain a patent airway independently but do not yet require a surgical airway intervention.

What colors does the TacMed™ Operator IFAK come in?

The TacMed™ Operator IFAK is available in four colors: Black (MEDTAC0403), Olive Drab (MEDTAC0404), Coyote Tan (MEDTAC0405), and Multicam (MEDTAC0406). Can the Operator IFAK be mounted on a plate carrier?

Yes. The TacMed™ Operator IFAK is MOLLE-compatible and attaches to any MOLLE/PALS webbing surface, including plate carriers, chest rigs, pack backs, and vehicles with MOLLE panels. The full-zip opening allows all contents to be accessed quickly without removing the pouch from the mounting surface, which is important when the IFAK is mounted on the back panel of a vest and must be accessed by a buddy.

Does the Operator IFAK include a dedicated vented chest seal?

The Operator IFAK does not include a standalone vented chest seal. However, the OLAES® 4" Modular Bandage included in the kit contains a plastic occlusive sheet that can be used as an improvised chest seal for penetrating thoracic wounds. For operators who want a dedicated vented chest seal (such as the HyFin Vent or Halo Seal), those are available separately in the MED-TAC Chest/Thoracic Supplies collection and can be added to the kit as an additional item.
