Basic Airway Pair
Two complete multi-size airway kits — nasal and oral routes covered from pediatric through large adult.
What is the Basic Airway Pair? Two full airway-adjunct kits bundled together — a six-size nasopharyngeal airway (NPA) kit spanning 22 to 32 Fr with lubricant, antiseptic wipes, and gloves, paired with a six-size color-coded Berman oropharyngeal airway (OPA) kit spanning 60 to 110 mm. Twelve airways in total, covering both the nasal and oral routes across the full pediatric-to-large-adult range. Built for IFAK construction, BLS airway bag stocking, and medical-bag restocking.

Product Overview
Airway obstruction is one of the leading causes of preventable death in trauma, and both the nasopharyngeal airway (NPA) and oropharyngeal airway (OPA) are foundational tools for maintaining a patent airway in prehospital and tactical settings. The Basic Airway Pair bundles both adjunct families together in full multi-size kit form — not single devices — so a responder can size to the patient rather than hope the one airway in the pouch happens to fit.
The NPA kit covers 22 through 32 Fr. Each airway is sterile and individually wrapped in soft, latex-free PVC, and each is matched with its own lubricating jelly packet and BZK antiseptic wipe; a pair of nitrile gloves is bagged with the kit. The NPA is generally tolerated by semi-conscious patients who will not accept an oral airway, which makes it the frequent first adjunct in tactical and prehospital care.
The Berman OPA kit covers 60 through 110 mm in color-coded sizes for rapid identification. Its dual open-channel lateral design keeps ventilation and suction-catheter access unobstructed even if the airway shifts in the oral cavity, and the reinforced flange resists collapse under bite pressure. Use it in deeply unconscious patients where tongue occlusion of the pharynx is the primary problem.
Together these kits address the most common airway-maintenance scenarios across the TCCC Care Under Fire and Tactical Field Care phases, as well as civilian EMS, wilderness medicine, school and campus response, and first-responder applications. Both kits are compact enough for IFAK builds and priced for training-supply consumption.
NPA vs. OPA — Selection Reference
| Adjunct | Sizes In Kit | Best For | Caution |
|---|---|---|---|
| NPA — nasal | 22, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32 Fr | Semi-conscious; gag reflex present; suspected jaw injury | Avoid with suspected basilar skull or midface fracture |
| Berman OPA — oral | 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 110 mm | Unconscious; no gag reflex; tongue obstruction | Contraindicated if a gag reflex is present |
