What is Reflexcell™ technology in the Blizzard IFAK Blanket?

Reflexcell™ is the proprietary multi-layer insulation technology in Blizzard thermal protection products. It reduces heat loss through a combination of reflective and insulating layers that create a microclimate around the patient, maintaining core body temperature more effectively than single-layer mylar space blankets — particularly in wet or windy conditions where passive reflectors lose effectiveness.

Is the Blizzard IFAK Blanket included in any Safeguard Medical kits?

Yes. The Blizzard Trauma Blanket is included as a component of the RAMPART Medic Enhancement Resupply Set (MER, SKU 82-504-05) as the hypothermia management component. The HAWK™ Advanced Hypothermia Management Set also incorporates a Blizzard 3-layer blanket paired with a warming grid. The IFAK Blanket version is sized for inclusion in individual IFAK pouches.

When should the Blizzard IFAK Blanket be applied in the MARCH protocol?

The Blizzard IFAK Blanket addresses the H step of MARCH — Hypothermia/Head. In combat casualty care, preventing hypothermia is critical because the trauma triad of death (hypothermia, acidosis, coagulopathy) is self-reinforcing: hypothermia worsens coagulopathy, which worsens hemorrhage. Apply early — as soon as life-threatening hemorrhage and airway/respiratory interventions are completed — to reduce the onset of traumatic hypothermia in any patient who is exposed, wet, or in cold conditions.
