Is the Crisis Incident Response Kit designed specifically for schools?

Yes. The Crisis Incident Response Kit from NAR was developed to provide the necessary trauma supplies for life-threatening emergencies in a school setting — including penetrating trauma, severe bleeding, and airway compromise. It is sized and configured for use by trained personnel such as school resource officers, security staff, and designated first responders within the school environment.

How many casualties can this kit treat?

With 2 C-A-T® Tourniquets, 4 compressed gauze rolls, 4 each of 4 in. and 6 in. ETDs, 2 HyFin® Vent Chest Seal Twin Packs, and 5 pairs of gloves, this kit provides hemorrhage control for 2–4 casualties with tourniquet application and up to 4 with pressure dressings. For higher-capacity multi-casualty coverage, consider the School Mass Crisis Incident Kit with 40 individual aid kits.

What is the difference between the Black and Orange variants?

The Black variant (85-1338) is tactically neutral for law enforcement and security deployment. The Orange variant (85-0410) provides high-visibility identification for emergency responders — making it easier to locate the kit quickly in a chaotic environment such as a school hallway or gymnasium. Contents are identical between both variants.

Does this kit include airway management supplies?

The kit includes Petrolatum Gauze (for chest wound sealing) and CPR Microshields for basic airway management. For advanced airway intervention including nasopharyngeal airways and needle decompression, consider the EMS Rapid Deployment Kit or CCRK Squad Kit for trained medical responders.

Are the tourniquets CoTCCC-recommended?

Yes. The kit includes 2 C-A-T® (Combat Application Tourniquet®) in Orange, which are CoTCCC-recommended for limb hemorrhage control. The HyFin® Vent Compact Chest Seal Twin Pack is also CoTCCC-recommended for penetrating chest wounds.

Is the CIRK designed for trained responders or untrained bystanders?

The Crisis Incident Response Kit is designed for trained first responders — security officers, law enforcement, EMS, and trained safety personnel. It is not intended for untrained bystander use. For public-access bleeding control deployment for untrained bystanders, use the D-BCRK Public Access Bleeding Control Kit series.

Are the C-A-T® tourniquets and HyFin® chest seals CoTCCC-recommended?

Yes. The C-A-T® is the CoTCCC-recommended #1 tourniquet. HyFin® Vent Compact Chest Seal (vented) is CoTCCC-recommended for open chest wounds.

What is the total weight of the CIRK?

The Crisis Incident Response Kit weighs approximately 5 lb complete. It is designed to be carried in the included bag as a go-bag during crisis response.
