How does HemoSEAL™ stop bleeding in animals?
HemoSEAL™ uses dry chitosan powder as its active hemostatic ingredient. Chitosan is a natural polysaccharide derived from shellfish shells with well-documented wound-closing properties — the same class of material used in many human hemostatic gauze products. When sprayed on a wound, the powder forms a physical barrier that halts blood flow without requiring pressure or rubbing. It does not adhere to fur or cause stinging, making it suitable for use on awake, conscious animals.
Can HemoSEAL™ be used on multiple wounds on the same animal?
Yes. HemoSEAL™ can be used on multiple wounds on the same animal from a single canister. However, each canister should only be used on one patient — once activated, the sterile seal is broken and sterility inside the can cannot be guaranteed if used on a second animal. For multi-animal environments (farms, K9 units with multiple dogs, veterinary practices), the 3-pack or 12-pack options ensure individual canisters are available for each patient.
Is HemoSEAL™ safe for use on all animal species?
HemoSEAL™ is formulated for animal use on dogs, cats, livestock, and working animals. It is not intended for human use. The sting-free, fur-safe formula makes it appropriate across multiple species without causing additional distress. It is suitable for use by pet owners, K9 handlers, veterinarians, farmers, hunters, and first responders — wherever animals may sustain bleeding injuries.
What wound types is HemoSEAL™ appropriate for?
HemoSEAL™ is designed for external bleeding wounds including punctures, lacerations, abrasions, nail clipping injuries, and trauma wounds. It is a first-line hemostatic measure intended to control bleeding while the animal is transported to professional veterinary care. It is not a substitute for veterinary treatment of deep wounds, internal bleeding, or injuries requiring surgical intervention.
Why should K9 handlers carry HemoSEAL™ in their K9 medical kit?
In tactical K9 operations, working dogs can sustain penetrating wounds in environments where immediate veterinary care is unavailable. HemoSEAL™ provides rapid bleeding control with a point-and-spray mechanism that does not require the handler to apply significant pressure or manually pack the wound — important when treating a stressed or painful dog that may resist handling. Its compact canister format fits easily into any K9 medical pouch, including the Elite K9 First Aid Kit and the NAR K-9 RUF Medical Kit, adding a hemostatic layer to standard wound care capability.
