What tourniquets fit the High Speed Gear Kydex Tourniquet TACO® Pouch?
The Kydex TACO's shock-cord flex design accommodates most major windlass tourniquets, including the CAT Gen 7, SOFTT, SOFTT-Wide, and SAM XT. The Kydex shell expands slightly to accept minor dimensional differences between tourniquet models while still maintaining positive friction-fit retention. Always verify fit before field deployment with your specific tourniquet.
How does the Kydex TACO retain a tourniquet without straps or buckles?
The Kydex TACO uses friction-fit geometry: the .080" T1-grade Kydex shell is contoured to the profile of a folded windlass tourniquet and holds it in place purely through contact pressure. A short shock cord runs across the opening to provide additional retention without requiring the user to operate any closure system. Deployment requires only a firm, direct pull — a gross motor movement that remains functional under stress, with gloves, or with compromised fine motor control.
Is the Kydex TACO Pouch MOLLE compatible?
Yes. The pouch ships with two HSGI Universal Clips that allow immediate attachment to MOLLE/PALS webbing on plate carriers, chest rigs, and vests. The same clips enable mounting on duty belts up to 2" wide. The TACO hole pattern on the pouch's mounting face is also stackable — a second Kydex TACO can be mounted directly behind the first, allowing two tourniquets to occupy the footprint of one single pouch position.
What is the difference between the Kydex TACO and fabric TACO pouches?
The primary distinction is material: the Kydex TACO uses T1 aircraft-grade Kydex thermoplastic (.080" thickness, manufactured by Comp-Tac), while the standard HSGI TACO uses stretch nylon fabric with elastic banding. Kydex holds zero water after submersion, resists sweat and solvents, is easy to decontaminate, and maintains its retention geometry regardless of temperature or humidity. Fabric TACOs offer slightly more flexible tourniquet size compatibility but can absorb moisture and may stretch over time. Both use the same HSGI Universal Clip mounting system.
Can I mount the Kydex TACO on a vehicle or non-standard surface?
Yes. The HSGI Universal Clips can attach the Kydex TACO to any MOLLE panel, including vehicle headrest MOLLE panels, roll cage webbing adapters, or MOLLE-equipped range bags and backpacks. The pouch can also mount horizontally or vertically on a standard duty belt up to 2" wide. For fixed installations (vehicle dash, wall mount), third-party MOLLE panel adapters are widely available and compatible with the HSGI clip system.
