FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What fire shelter sizes does the MTR Wildland Day Pack fire shelter holder accommodate?

The MTR Wildland Day Pack With Fire Shelter Holder (MTR-24011) features a dedicated custom compartment that accommodates both standard and large fire shelters. The holder keeps the shelter segregated from other gear for rapid deployment in an entrapment situation.

Can the MTR Wildland Day Pack be worn without the full pack?

Yes. The MTR Wildland Day Pack features a modular harness system with quick-release buckles. The top portion of the pack detaches, allowing firefighters to wear only the harness when additional mobility is needed during active fire suppression, then reattach the full pack when transitioning to travel or staging.

How much does the MTR Wildland Day Pack weigh?

The MTR Wildland Day Pack (MTR-24011) weighs 2.5 lb empty — making it one of the lighter structured wildland fire packs available. This low empty weight reduces cumulative fatigue during long shifts on the fire line while still providing dedicated compartments for all required wildland firefighter equipment.

What material is the MTR Wildland Day Pack made from?

The MTR Wildland Day Pack is constructed from heavy-duty Cordura fabric with Velcro closures. Cordura is a high-performance nylon fabric known for its abrasion resistance, tear strength, and durability in demanding outdoor environments — making it suitable for the brush, rock, and heat exposure of wildland fire operations.

Does the MTR Wildland Day Pack have storage for fusees?

Yes. The MTR Wildland Day Pack includes a dedicated fusee compartment for storing road flares and ignition devices. This keeps fusees segregated from food, water, and medical supplies, and makes them quickly accessible when needed for fire line operations.
