How is the PJ Sked® different from the standard Sked® Basic Rescue System?

The PJ Sked® (SK-215C-GR) is 28 in. wide versus 36 in. for the standard SK-200, reducing packed rucksack height by 8 in. This narrower profile allows Air Force Pararescuemen and special operations personnel to pass through building doorways, helicopter doors, and confined spaces with the stretcher on their ruck without the clearance problems of the wider standard model. Both versions are functionally identical and share all accessories.

What are Cobra Quick Release Buckles and why do they matter?

Cobra QR (Quick Release) Buckles are high-strength, rapid-release buckles originally developed for special operations load-bearing equipment, known for combining exceptional strength with one-handed, glove-compatible release capability. On the PJ Sked®, they enable faster, safer patient packaging under stress — particularly important during helicopter hoisting operations or time-critical casualty extractions where seconds matter.

Can the PJ Sked® be used for helicopter hoisting?

The PJ Sked® has not been formally tested by USAARL (U.S. Army Aeromedical Research Laboratory) for hoisting. However, Air Force PJs actively use it in helicopter hoist operations, utilizing the included horizontal lift slings and vertical lift sling. Agencies requiring formal hoist certification should consult SKEDCO directly for current testing documentation.

Is the PJ Sked® compatible with standard SK-200 accessories?

Yes. All accessories designed for the standard Sked® SK-200 are compatible with the PJ Sked®, including the SK-605/606 CO2 Inflatable Float Logs, inflatable chest pad, and other water rescue accessories. This allows agencies that already own SK-200 accessories to equip the PJ Sked® without additional investment.
