What does the QUANTUM Controller do?

The QUANTUM Controller (NAR 35-0003) is the central processing and power regulation unit of the QUANTUM Blood & Fluid Warming System. It reads temperature data from thermistors built into the thermal tubing wall and dynamically adjusts how much energy it draws from the 44V lithium battery to maintain a precise output temperature of 100.4°F (38°C ± 2°C) at whatever flow rate the clinician is using. It also provides LED status indication for warmup progress and can have audible alerts disabled for tactical operations.

How does the QUANTUM Controller connect to the rest of the system?

The QUANTUM Controller connects via two cables — one to the QUANTUM Battery (35-0002) and one to the Thermal Transfusion Set (TTS-B or TIS). Critically, neither connection has a plug orientation requirement, meaning there is no wrong way to connect the cables. This design eliminates a common source of setup errors under stress, contributing to the system's 24-second ready-to-use warmup time.

Can the audible alerts on the QUANTUM Controller be disabled?

Yes. The QUANTUM is the only FDA-cleared portable blood and fluid warmer that allows easy disabling of audible alerts. This feature was specifically designed for tactical operations where sound discipline is critical and the noise of an alert tone could compromise operator or casualty safety. The system's LED status indicators continue to function when audible alerts are disabled.

Is the QUANTUM Controller sold separately as a replacement part?

Yes. The QUANTUM Controller is available as a standalone item (35-0003) for organizations that need to replace a damaged or non-functional controller in an existing QUANTUM system. When ordering replacement components, ensure compatibility with your existing QUANTUM battery (35-0002) and thermal tubing sets (35-0005 for blood, 35-0004 for IV fluids).

What tubing sets work with the QUANTUM Controller?

The QUANTUM Controller is compatible with two thermal tubing sets from North American Rescue: the Thermal Transfusion Set–Blood (TTS-B, item 35-0005), which is appropriate for whole blood, blood products, and IV solutions, and the Thermal Infusion Set (TIS, item 35-0004), which is for IV solutions only. Both sets incorporate heating elements and thermistors in the tubing walls that communicate with the controller. Standard IV tubing sets are not compatible with the QUANTUM Controller.

Is the QUANTUM Controller a standalone replacement part?

Yes. SKU available through MED-TAC International for replacement procurement. Note that with QUANTUM system discontinuation announced by NAR, replacement controllers will become scarce over time — stock spares now.

What controller battery or power source does it use?

The QUANTUM Controller draws power from the QUANTUM Battery (35-0002) — it does not use an internal battery. The Controller and Battery together form the core power and regulation assembly of the system.
