What does the SAM IO Driver Adaptor do?

The SAM IO Driver Adaptor (MEDTAC1061) is the Luer-lock connection piece that attaches to the SAM IO catheter hub after the stylet is removed following successful IO needle placement. It provides a standard Luer-lock interface for connecting an extension set, syringe, or IV administration line, enabling aspiration verification (to confirm intraosseous placement), flushing, and delivery of fluids or medications via the IO route.

Is the Adaptor included with the SAM IO Driver?

The SAM IO Intraosseous Access System full kit includes a driver, three needle sizes (15 mm, 25 mm, 45 mm), a Stabilizer, and an Adaptor. However, if purchasing the SAM IO Driver (30-0255) individually, the Adaptor may be sold separately as a standalone replacement or additional item under SKU MEDTAC1061 (manufacturer part IO742-EN). Always verify your kit configuration to ensure you have the Adaptor before attempting IO access.

What type of connection does the SAM IO Adaptor use?

The SAM IO Adaptor uses a standard Luer-lock connection, which is the universal fitting used on most IV extension sets, syringes, and infusion lines in medical practice. This allows the SAM IO system to interface with any standard Luer-lock compatible extension set for fluid or medication delivery without requiring proprietary connectors beyond the adaptor itself.

Can the SAM IO Adaptor be used with other IO systems?

The SAM IO Adaptor is specifically designed for use with the SAM IO Intraosseous Access System and its needle/catheter assemblies. It is not interchangeable with EZ-IO, FAST-1, or other IO systems that use different catheter hub designs. For IO access via other platforms, use the adaptors or extension sets designed for those specific systems.

Which SAM IO components do I need for a complete IO access kit?

A complete SAM IO access kit requires: the SAM IO Driver (30-0255) for needle placement; one or more SAM IO Needle assemblies in the appropriate size (15 mm for pediatric/thin adults, 25 mm for standard adults, 45 mm for obese patients or proximal humerus); the SAM IO Stabilizer (MEDTAC1059) to prevent catheter dislodgement; and the SAM IO Adaptor (MEDTAC1061) for connecting to an extension set. Each sterile-packed needle also includes a NeedleVISE® sharp containment device and extension tube.
