Is JBC Flat-Fold Tape the same as standard Gorilla Tape?

The JBC Flat-Fold Field Tape uses Gorilla Tape — one of the most recognized high-strength adhesive tapes commercially available — repackaged by JBC Corp into a flat-fold configuration optimized for field medical kits. The tape itself retains all Gorilla Tape characteristics: double-thick adhesive, reinforced UV-resistant backing, and all-weather adhesion. The flat-fold format makes it more practical for kit integration and gloved-hand application than a standard roll.

How is this different from the NAR Gecko Grip or Durapore flat tape?

The JBC Flat-Fold uses Gorilla Tape as its adhesive base — a consumer-grade heavy-duty tape significantly stronger than both Durapore (medical silk) and T-REX Gecko Grip for structural applications. Gorilla Tape is designed for bonding rough, irregular surfaces and maintaining hold in adverse weather. Durapore is skin-safe and designed for medical adhesion to skin and devices. Gecko Grip (T-REX) occupies the middle ground. JBC Flat-Fold is the strongest option for gear repair and structural field applications.

Can this tape be used directly on skin for wound dressings?

Gorilla Tape is not formulated as a skin-safe medical adhesive and is not recommended for prolonged direct skin contact over wounds, sensitive areas, or compromised skin. For direct skin contact — IV fixation, wound dressing, NPA retention — use the NAR 2" Flat Medical Tape (Durapore) or Frog Tape Medical. The JBC Flat-Fold is best suited for equipment applications and over-dressing structural reinforcement.

Does the flat-fold format affect tape performance vs. a roll?

The flat-fold format does not affect the adhesive or backing properties of the tape. Performance is identical to a Gorilla Tape roll. The flat-fold improves accessibility: the tape is easier to peel from a flat surface than from a roll, particularly with bulky gloves. The flat configuration also integrates more cleanly into medical kit pouches without the round cross-section of a roll.

What is the shelf life of the JBC Flat-Fold Field Medical Tape?

Gorilla Tape has an estimated shelf life of approximately 2 years from manufacture under proper storage conditions (cool, dry environment away from direct sunlight). The JBC flat-fold packaging maintains the tape in its original condition until opened. For long-term stockpiling, store in a climate-controlled environment and rotate stock per packaging date.
