What is included in the D-BAG IFAK Basic kit?
The D-BAG IFAK Basic includes a D-BAG Cordura® carrier, a Combat Application Tourniquet (C-A-T) Gen 7, a Nasopharyngeal Airway (NPA), a Russell Chest Seal, a Hemguard Pressure Bandage (4"), The Advantage Pressure Bar, Z-Fold Compressed Gauze, Battle Wrap, a Mylar emergency blanket, medical shears, a pair of nitrile trauma gloves, and a permanent marker. The kit content is assembled to address the three leading causes of preventable tactical death per TCCC doctrine: massive hemorrhage, tension pneumothorax, and airway obstruction.
How does the D-BAG's mounting system work, and what platforms is it compatible with?
The D-BAG uses a proprietary MOLLE quick-detach rear mounting system that removes the entire kit from any MOLLE-compatible platform in a single motion. It is compatible with plate carriers, battle belts, chest rigs, vehicle mounts, and wall brackets. The quick-detach design means a casualty's teammate can strip the IFAK from the carrier and begin treatment without the carrier impeding movement — a critical advantage during dynamic casualty care. The dual elastic tourniquet side holders on the exterior allow tourniquets to be accessed immediately without opening the main compartment.
Why are the tourniquets staged externally on the D-BAG rather than inside the pouch?
Hemorrhage control is the highest-priority intervention in TCCC, and the most life-saving action is often applying a tourniquet within the first 60–90 seconds of wounding. Placing tourniquets on the outside of the pouch in dedicated elastic holders means a responder can access and apply the tourniquet in one motion without unzipping the main compartment or searching through supplies. This design reduces time-to-tourniquet and is particularly critical in self-care scenarios where one hand may be injured or occupied maintaining pressure on a wound.
What colors and configurations are available for the D-BAG IFAK Basic?
The D-BAG IFAK Basic is available in five color options: Black, Olive Drab, Coyote, Multicam, and Red. All color variants contain identical kit contents and carrier construction. The carrier is built from genuine Cordura® with double stitching and reinforced taped seams. For those who need only the carrier without pre-filled contents — to configure a custom load-out or replace consumed supplies — the standalone D-BAG IFAK Pouch is available separately.
Is the D-BAG IFAK Basic suitable for both self-aid and buddy-aid scenarios?
Yes. The D-BAG was designed with both self-aid and buddy-aid use cases in mind. For self-aid, the external tourniquet holders allow one-handed extraction and the rubber pull handles open the main compartment reliably with gloved or wet hands. For buddy-aid, the MOLLE quick-detach allows a teammate to strip the entire IFAK from a casualty's carrier and immediately begin treatment. The compact footprint and dual tourniquet staging make it equally practical whether mounted on a plate carrier, battle belt, or vehicle.
