Needle decompression unit packed with the Pneumeric™ Capnospot® colorimetric CO₂ indicator, which reads blue before decompression and turns yellow on therapeutic confirmation — a visual signal independent of feel or sound. A rigid PTFE catheter resists kinking and a built-in one-way valve holds the channel once the catheter is seated. Two gauges.

The NIK Kit is a needle decompression device with an engineered colorimetric confirmation indicator; verify CoTCCC status and your local protocol before fielding. Treat this as protocol-driven, not as a substitute for medical direction.

What does the colorimetric indicator actually do?

The Pneumeric Capnospot indicator is blue before entry. When the catheter enters the pleural space and CO2 reaches the indicator, it changes to yellow during the procedure — visual confirmation of correct placement, not a retrospective check.

14 G or 10 G — which should I carry?

14 G x 3.25 in is the standard tension pneumothorax decompression size used widely in TCCC and civilian EMS protocols. 10 G is larger-bore for high-flow indications or operator preference. Choose based on your protocol and patient population; many operators carry both.

Is 3.25 in long enough for adult chest walls?

3.25 in (8 cm) is the length specified in current TCCC guidance for the 5th intercostal space anterior axillary line as the preferred site, and remains in use at the 2nd intercostal space mid-clavicular line as the alternate. Length matches current best-practice protocols.

How do I store and maintain the kit?
