Is QuikClot Combat Gauze the same as QuikClot powder?

No. The original QuikClot zeolite powder products (discontinued) generated significant heat during application. Combat Gauze uses kaolin — an inert clay mineral — with no thermal injury risk.

How long do I hold pressure after packing with Combat Gauze?

Minimum 3 minutes continuous firm pressure — 5 minutes for suspected arterial injury. Do not lift to inspect.

Does Combat Gauze have a NSN?

Yes. NSN: 6510-01-562-3325. DAPA listed, procurement-eligible through military supply channels.

Can Combat Gauze be used on anticoagulated patients?

Combat Gauze is cascade-dependent. For patients on anticoagulants, CoTCCC recognizes chitosan-based alternatives (ChitoGAUZE, CELOX) as preferred. For standard patients, Combat Gauze remains the primary recommendation.
