Inside the RSO Ballistic Trauma EAP & Guide

Everything firearms instructors, range owners, and safety officers need to build an automated, defensible medical posture on the firing line.

Section 1 • Immediate Action

The 60-Second Gunshot Protocol

Universal ceasefire commands, hot-to-cold range transitions, massive hemorrhage intervention, 2–3 in above wound tourniquet placement (never over a joint), and team coordination.

Section 2 • Facility Layout

4-Tier Trauma Staging Matrix

Standardized equipment layouts: RSO belt IFAKs, firing-line wall stations every 4–6 lanes, counter mass casualty kits, and perimeter evacuation litters.

Section 3 • Dispatch Standardization

Fillable 911 Script & GPS Master

print-and-laminate template with pre-filled GPS coordinates (DD and DMS), rural ingress routes, gate access codes, and designated EMS gate guides.

Section 4 • Austere Transport

Outdoor Remote Air Medevac LZ

For rural outdoor clubs: 100x100 ft clear landing zone criteria, day/night marking procedures, rotor wash security, and landing coordinator communications.

Section 5 • Environmental Health

Lead Safety & Hygiene Standards

Ventilation management, berm maintenance PPE standards, lead-removing hand wash protocols, and OSHA 1910.1025 blood lead level (BLL) compliance.

Section 6 • Practical Scenarios

Annual Drills & Liability Shield

4 practical live-fire drill scripts (holster discharge, chest trauma, squib shrapnel, sudden cardiac arrest), OSHA 1910.151 compliance, and incident AAR forms.

Range Medical Preparedness • Critical Operating Facts

Cardiac Event Readiness

Cardiac emergencies occur alongside physical exertion, environmental heat stress, and recoil adrenaline. Place the AED where staff can reach any firing point in under a minute, not locked in an office.

OSHA 1910.151 Standard

OSHA 29 CFR 1910.151 requires trained first-aid personnel and readily available supplies where no clinic is in near proximity. OSHA interpretation letters read 'near proximity' as about 3–4 minutes where severe bleeding is possible.

Standard First Aid Kits Fail

Consumer white plastic boxes contain zero high-pressure arterial tourniquets or chest seals. Ballistic trauma requires evidence-based components selected for proven function and clinical experience.

Ingress & Transport Delays

Rural ranges face extended EMS travel times and complex gate navigation. Bleeding control in the first minutes, by the people already on the line, is what changes the outcome.
