Advanced Child

The SIMBODIES Advanced Child is a pediatric training manikin in prosthetic-grade platinum silicone, handmade in the UK, offered in approximately 5-year-old and 10-year-old sizes, male and female, in three skin tones. The airway is cast from cadaver specimens at pediatric scale, and the splashproof silicone skin takes moulage and washes clean. Twelve SKUs cover every size, gender and tone combination.

Pediatric anatomy is not adult anatomy scaled down, and a provider who has only ever trained on an adult form finds that out on a real child. Two age sizes exist because five and ten are not the same patient.

This is a training manikin. It is not a medical device and carries no clinical indication. Use training pads with an AED trainer for defibrillation practice — never a live defibrillator. Use inert trainer tourniquets, gauze and seals, which are not the clinical products and carry none of their status.

Two age sizes exist because a five-year-old and a ten-year-old are different patients. If your protocols branch on age, buy across the branch rather than training everyone on one size. Safeguard Medical does not publish weight and height for either size, so confirm dimensions directly before you standardise a backboard or stretcher station around the manikin.

Can the Advanced Child manikin be used for pediatric intubation and airway training?

Yes. Like all SIMBODIES manikins, the Advanced Child features an airway casted from cadaver specimens to produce anatomically accurate pediatric airway geometry. This supports laryngoscopy, tracheal intubation, supraglottic airway device insertion, nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal airway management, and BVM ventilation—all in child-appropriate dimensions.

Does the Advanced Child manikin support hemorrhage control and IO access?

Yes. The manikin includes intraosseous (IO) access sites at the anatomically correct humeral head and tibial locations, and the limbs and torso are configured for tourniquet application, wound dressing, and chest seal placement. This makes it suitable for pediatric hemorrhage-control and tactical combat casualty care (TCCC) skill development.

Is the Advanced Child manikin made from the same material as the adult SIMBODIES manikins?

Yes. The Advanced Child is handmade in the United Kingdom using skin-safe, prosthetic-grade platinum silicone—the same material class used across the entire SIMBODIES lineup and in high-end prosthetics manufacturing. The silicone skin is splashproof, washable, and color-stable across all three available skin tones.

Why use a dedicated pediatric manikin instead of an adult manikin for child casualty training?

Pediatric anatomy differs significantly from adult anatomy in airway geometry, chest dimensions, IO site locations, and normal physiological parameters. Using an anatomically scaled child manikin allows trainees to develop accurate muscle memory for sizing equipment, calculating drug doses by weight, and managing the physical differences encountered during real pediatric emergencies—preparation that adult manikins simply cannot replicate.
