Safeguard Medical · MOJO® Tourniquet Pouch
MOJO® TMT Holster Kit
A Tactical Mechanical Tourniquet packed in Safeguard Medical's MOJO® holster-style pouch: Berry-compliant 500D nylon, a high-visibility red pull strap, and a vertical belt loop that rides a standard 2 in. utility or gun belt or clips to MOLLE. Black or olive drab. One kit, one TMT, one job — massive limb hemorrhage.
TMT is evidence-based standardRed pull strapMOLLE or 2 in. belt500D nylon, Berry compliant5.1 oz

The tourniquet only helps if it is on you when it counts. Put the pouch where either hand finds the red strap without looking.

The short answer
What it is
A single-use kit: one TMT tourniquet in a MOJO® nylon pouch with a red pull strap.
Use it for
Carrying a evidence-based standard limb tourniquet on a belt or on MOLLE webbing, ready to pull.
How it's used
Pull the strap, take the TMT, place it high and tight over clothing under threat, or on bare skin 2–3 in. above the wound when the source is found and time allows — never over a joint. Ratchet, twist, lock, record the time.
Who carries it
Tactical medics, law enforcement and emergency responders — on the body, within reach of either hand.

12 things to know about the MOJO® TMT Holster Kit

What is in the pouch, how it carries, and what the tourniquet inside it does.

  1. 01

    What is in the kit

One MOJO® pouch and one Tactical Mechanical Tourniquet. Safeguard lists the kit as catalog 88-115-01 in the FDA's device identifier database, brand name Mojo TMT Holster Kit, under product code OHO (first aid kit without drug).3,4

  2. 02

The status belongs to the tourniquet

The evidence-based list names the Tactical Mechanical Tourniquet, NSN 6515-01-656-6191.2 It names tourniquets, not pouches or kits: the TMT inside is evidence-based standard and an FDA-registered, Class I (510(k)-exempt) tourniquet;7 the pouch is how you carry it.

  3. 03

    A pouch built for speed

The pouch is rugged 500D nylon, Berry compliant, made in the USA, and Safeguard describes it as built for high-speed access and field durability.3

  4. 04

The red strap is the draw

A high-visibility red nylon pull strap deploys the tourniquet instantly.3 One hand on the strap, tourniquet out.

  5. 05

    Belt or MOLLE

The pouch has a vertical belt loop that fits a standard 2 in. utility or gun belt, and it attaches directly to MOLLE systems.3,4

  6. 06

    Compact by design

    Deployed size is 3.25 × 6 × 2.5 in. and the kit weighs 5.1 oz — low-profile carry without added bulk.3

  7. 07

    Two colors, one tourniquet

The kit comes in Black (88-115-01-BL) and Olive Drab (88-115-01-OD).3 Color is the pouch's; the tourniquet inside is the TMT.

  8. 08

The TMT: a 2 in. strap with no internal band

Safeguard states the 2 in. strap achieves occlusion at lower pressures and that the absence of an internal band eases slack removal and allows rapid resetting.5

  9. 09

    Ratchet, twist, click

You ratchet the strap tail snug, twist the torsion bar until the bleeding stops, and lock the bar into its retainer — it clicks when it seats.5,6

  10. 10

    A buckle for trapped limbs

The quick-disconnect buckle prevents misrouting and lets you open the loop, pass the strap around a trapped limb and reconnect it — or apply the TMT one-handed.5,6

  11. 11

    What the data show

In 24 British military volunteers self-applying at mid-thigh, the TMT succeeded in 71% and the C-A-T in 92% — not a significant difference.9 In a three-way crossover, arm failure was 19.4% for the TMT, 5.6% for the C-A-T Gen 7 and 58.3% for the SOFTT-W.10 On a manikin thigh, the TMT and the C-A-T controlled bleeding equally often, the C-A-T at higher pressure.11

  12. 12

    Single use, five-year shelf life

Safeguard rates the kit single-use with a 5-year shelf life.3 The TMT itself is labeled single-use: once it has been applied, on a casualty or in practice, replace it.6

How to carry, draw and apply it

Placement on the body first, then the TMT sequence with the placement decision made up front.

  1. 1
Mount it where either hand finds it. Slide the vertical belt loop onto a standard 2 in. utility or gun belt, or attach the pouch to MOLLE webbing, with the red strap oriented to pull freely.3,4 Carry it on the body, where you can reach it with either hand, under stress, without looking.
  2. 2
Choose the placement. Under threat, or when you cannot see where the blood is coming from: hasty — high and tight, over clothing. When the source is found and time and safety allow: deliberate — on bare skin, 2–3 in. above the wound. If that point lands on a joint, move above the joint. Never place it across or directly over a joint.1
  3. 3
Pull the strap, take the TMT. Draw the tourniquet with the red pull strap, hold the strap end by the white time-label tab and let it fall open with "PULL" facing away. For a trapped limb, separate the buckle, route the strap around the limb without twisting it, and reconnect.3,6
  4. 4
Free the strap and ratchet. Pull the time tab until the hook-and-loop separates, grip the tail close to the buckle, pull up and away, then down in a quick ratcheting motion until snug.6
  5. 5
Twist, lock, record. Twist until the bleeding stops and the distal pulse is gone — it hurts, and that is expected. Lock the torsion bar into the retainer, secure the excess strap, and write the time on the tourniquet and the casualty card. If bleeding continues, add a second tourniquet side by side with the first.1,6
  6. 6
Reassess a hasty tourniquet. When the scene allows, expose the wound. If a tourniquet is needed, place a second one on bare skin 2–3 in. above the bleeding site, tighten it, then slowly release the first. If the source still cannot be found, the first stays high and tight.1
  7. 7
Leave it on — or convert by protocol. For civilians and most law enforcement, especially in self-aid, leaving it in place for the receiving clinicians is good practice. The TCCC Guidelines direct every effort to convert within 2 hours when the casualty is not in shock, the wound can be watched, and it is not an amputation.1
Drill the draw. Carrying a tourniquet is not training. Wear the pouch the way you will carry it, then practice pulling the red strap with either hand, gloved and in the dark. The TMT is labeled single-use:6 one ratcheted and twisted in practice becomes a training unit — mark it and replace the one you carry.

Where it fits

Use it for
  • Carrying a evidence-based standard limb tourniquet on a 2 in. belt or MOLLE webbing2,3
  • Life-threatening bleeding from an arm or a leg, and any traumatic amputation1
  • A trapped limb — open the quick-disconnect buckle, route around, reconnect5,6
  • Low-profile, belt-level carry for medics, officers and responders3
Not for
  • The groin, armpit or neck — pack those wounds with hemostatic gauze and hold pressure
  • Across or directly over a joint — move above it
  • Bleeding that direct pressure or a pressure dressing controls
  • Packing wounds or dressing a chest — this kit carries a tourniquet only

The evidence

The evidence is for the tourniquet in the pouch — what each study tested and how strong it is.

Study Evidence type What was studied What it found
Kragh et al., Ann Surg 2009 Human · combat clinical Tourniquets as a class: 232 casualties with 428 tourniquets, Baghdad combat support hospital, 2006 Tourniquet use when shock was absent was associated with survival (90% vs 10%, P < 0.001); no amputation resulted solely from tourniquet use
Beaven et al., J Spec Oper Med 2018 Human volunteer · randomized 24 British military volunteers self-applying the C-A-T and the TMT at mid-thigh, ultrasound of popliteal flow Success C-A-T 92% vs TMT 71% (not significant); median time to occlusion 37.5 s vs 35 s
Treager et al., J Trauma Acute Care Surg 2021 Human volunteer · randomized crossover C-A-T Gen 7 vs TMT vs SOFTT-W on arm and leg, Doppler pulse, then retested after crawling and dragging Arm failure 5.56% vs 19.44% vs 58.33%; leg failure 27.78% vs 44.44% vs 61.11%; no significant difference after movement
Gibson et al., J Spec Oper Med 2016 Manikin TMT and RATS vs C-A-T on a manikin thigh, two users, 30 tests each Effectiveness and pulse cessation did not differ by model; the C-A-T applied more pressure than the TMT
Montgomery et al., J Spec Oper Med 2019 Expert review · evidence-based update Review of limb tourniquets for the evidence-based's 2019 update, which added the TMT evidence-based voted to update its list in April 2019; the authors note the lack of unbiased data and official test criteria

Strongest to weakest: human clinical data, then human-volunteer tests, then manikin studies, then expert review. The combat data are for tourniquets as a class; none of these studies tested the pouch.8

Questions buyers ask

▾Is this kit evidence-based standard?

The tourniquet in it is: the evidence-based list names the Tactical Mechanical Tourniquet, NSN 6515-01-656-6191.2 The list covers tourniquets, not pouches or kits, so the recommendation belongs to the TMT.

▾What is in the kit?

One MOJO® pouch and one TMT tourniquet.3 There are no dressings, hemostatic gauze or gloves in it — Safeguard's MOJO Holster Bleeder Kit is the version that adds hemostatic gauze and nitrile gloves.3

▾How do I wear it?

On a standard 2 in. utility or gun belt through the vertical belt loop, or attached directly to MOLLE webbing.3,4 Put it where either hand reaches it under stress without looking.

▾Can I draw it with either hand?

The red pull strap is the draw point. Whether it works for you with the left hand, the right hand, gloved and seated depends on where you mount it — practice both hands in the exact position you wear it.

▾High and tight, or 2–3 inches above the wound?

Both are correct; the situation decides. Under threat, or when you cannot find the source, place it high and tight over clothing. When the source is found and time allows, place it on bare skin 2–3 in. above the wound — and if that lands on a joint, go above the joint. Reassess a hasty tourniquet once the scene allows and convert it to a deliberate one; if the source still cannot be found, it stays high and tight.1

▾How long can it stay on — and should it come off?

For civilians and most law enforcement, especially when you applied it to yourself, leaving it on for the hospital team is good practice. The military direction: every effort is made to convert within 2 hours if the casualty is not in shock, the wound can be watched, and it is not an amputation; non-medical service members do not attempt it past 2 hours without direction from advanced medical personnel, and a tourniquet on longer than 6 hours stays on unless close monitoring and lab capability are available.1

▾Should a tourniquet go on an amputation that is barely bleeding?

Yes. The TCCC Guidelines call for a limb tourniquet on any traumatic amputation.1 Early on, adrenaline clamps the torn arteries down; when it wears off they open again and the bleeding starts.

▾Is a tourniquet right for a child?

Most limb injuries in children do not need one: direct pressure comes first. A tourniquet is for life-threatening limb bleeding that pressure does not control. The TMT's 2 in. strap suits limbs from 5.75 to 38 in. around.5

▾What happens after the TMT is used?

The TMT is labeled single-use.6 Once it has been applied, on a casualty or in practice, replace it. The kit itself is single-use with a 5-year shelf life.3
