What sizes are included in the MED-TAC NPA Kit?

The MED-TAC Nasopharyngeal Airway Kit (SKU: LX-NPA6) includes six individually sterile-wrapped NPAs in sizes 22 Fr, 24 Fr, 26 Fr, 28 Fr, 30 Fr, and 32 Fr. Each NPA comes with a separate lubricating jelly packet. The kit covers the full range of average adult patient sizes — from smaller females (22–24 Fr) to average adult males (28 Fr, the CoTCCC-recommended size) to larger adults (30–32 Fr).

Why would I need multiple NPA sizes instead of just a 28 Fr?

While the 28 Fr is the CoTCCC-recommended default for average adult males, patient anatomy varies significantly. Smaller females and smaller-framed adults may require a 24–26 Fr for optimal airway fit. Larger adult males may benefit from a 30–32 Fr. In a clinical or EMS setting where providers treat a wide range of patients, having a size assortment ensures the correct NPA is always available. The nares-to-tragus measurement method can guide size selection in the field.

Are the NPAs in this kit sterile?

Yes. Each NPA in the kit is individually sterile-wrapped and single-use. This ensures that each device is sterile at the time of insertion and that unused sizes remain sterile for future use. The individual packaging also allows the kit to be distributed across multiple trauma bags if needed, with each NPA remaining usable independently.

Can this kit be used for pediatric patients?

The NPA Kit covers sizes 22–32 Fr, which is primarily intended for adult patients. A 22 Fr NPA may be appropriate for older adolescents or very small adults, but dedicated pediatric NPA sizing generally starts at 12–18 Fr. For primarily pediatric or mixed populations, consult size charts specific to pediatric weight and age. For adult-focused EMS, military, and first responder applications, this kit provides comprehensive coverage.

Is the MED-TAC NPA Kit good for stocking a BLS airway bag?

Yes — this kit is an ideal core component for a BLS airway bag. Combined with a Berman OPA kit (oropharyngeal airways for unconscious patients without gag reflex) and a bag valve mask, the NPA Kit provides the nasopharyngeal airway coverage needed for both conscious (with gag reflex) and unconscious patients. The six-size assortment eliminates the need to separately stock and rotate six individual SKUs.
