PRODUCT INFORMATION
SAM Medical · Pelvic Binder
SAM Pelvic Sling
A circumferential pelvic binder with a force-limiting buckle. The patented AUTOSTOP buckle raises two metal prongs and clicks when 150 N of circumferential force has been reached, so the sling stops you tightening past the manufacturer's target rather than leaving the force to the operator's judgement. Radiolucent, with an integrated posterior slider for transfers.

A bedsheet will bind a pelvis. What it will not do is tell you when to stop pulling — and on this injury, both too little and too much are failures.

What's Included

One sling, one package — read the sizing note below before you order. Tap to open.

VIEW ▾What's in the Package — one sling
  • 1× SAM Pelvic Sling — circumferential pelvic binder with the patented AUTOSTOP buckle. Two metal prongs emerge and the buckle clicks when 150 N (33.7 lb) of circumferential force is reached, which is the manufacturer's stated target for pelvic ring reduction.
  • Integrated posterior slider, built into the sling — allows the device to be repositioned for patient transfer and log-rolls without removing it.
  • SIZE: The manufacturer produces the sling in Small (27–45 in.), Standard (32–50 in.) and Large (36–54 in.) hip circumference, and states the Standard fits approximately 95% of the adult population. This listing ships the Standard size in OD Green/Black, SAM part number PS301-OD-EN. A binder that does not close on the patient is a binder that does not work.
  • NOT INCLUDED: No litter, no backboard, no straps, no leg binder or internal-rotation strapping. This is the pelvic binder only.

Sizes, force limit, application time, slider, imaging compatibility, packaged dimensions, weight, NSN and origin are manufacturer-stated. When a pelvic binder is indicated, where on the pelvis it belongs, how long it may stay on, and when it should come off are protocol and medical-direction decisions.

▾Who Carries It

EMS and prehospital crews managing suspected pelvic ring injury from blunt trauma · Combat medics and tactical medical providers for whom a binder is a standard trauma-bag line item · Search and rescue and industrial rescue teams working falls and crush mechanisms · Emergency departments and trauma bays, where the radiolucent construction means the binder stays on through imaging · Flight and critical care transport, where the posterior slider matters because the patient will be moved between surfaces more than once.

The device's whole design argument is that it removes the operator from the pressure decision — the click is the endpoint, not your judgement of how tight feels right. That is worth knowing on both sides: under-tightening leaves the ring unreduced, and over-tightening is a real harm that improvised binders permit and this one is built to prevent. Two operational points from the manufacturer's own data: The sling is MRI safe only if applied before the patient enters the MRI environment, and repositioning for a log-roll is done with the slider rather than by removing and reapplying. Whether to apply a pelvic binder at all, and to which patients, is set by your protocol, your medical direction and your scope of practice.
