Why does the IMAK include two packs of Combat Gauze?

Two packs of QuikClot Combat Gauze LE provide the ability to treat two separate hemorrhagic wounds, or to fully pack a single large wound — which may require more than one roll of gauze. Aviation missions often involve multiple casualties or injuries not accessible to tourniquet application, making comprehensive wound packing gauze the highest priority.

Is the QuikClot Combat Gauze LE CoTCCC-recommended?

Yes. QuikClot Combat Gauze LE (kaolin-impregnated gauze) is CoTCCC-recommended for wound packing in life-threatening hemorrhage. It is the most widely used hemostatic gauze in U.S. military and law enforcement applications.

What is the folding razor utility knife for?

The folding razor utility knife in the IMAK allows rapid clothing and equipment removal to expose injury sites without dedicated trauma shears, which can be bulky in a compact aviation kit. It is a lightweight, versatile tool for exposure of wounds, cutting harnesses, or cutting through light gear.

Does the IMAK include decompression capability?

The IMAK includes a Beacon™ Chest Seal for open pneumothorax management but does not include a dedicated needle decompression kit. For tension pneumothorax decompression capability, complement the IMAK with an ARS® Needle Decompression Kit or upgrade to the CCRK Individual or AFAK platforms which include NCD kits.
