The Universal Armor Tourniquet Dispenser includes TWO SOF® Tourniquets. The SOF® (Special Operations Forces) Tourniquet is a CoTCCC-recommended extremity hemorrhage control device designed for one-handed self-application. Two tourniquets are included to enable dual mounting — one on the front ID patch area for self-care access and one on the back ID patch area for buddy-care deployment by a teammate.

Does the Universal Armor Tourniquet Dispenser use MOLLE webbing?

No — this is the dispenser's key advantage. The Universal Armor Tourniquet Dispenser mounts over the ID patch area of a vest or plate carrier, occupying no MOLLE webbing space. The ID patch or name tape is placed on top of the dispenser, maintaining the vest's normal appearance. This design preserves all available MOLLE real estate for other mission-critical pouches and equipment.

What vests and plate carriers is the dispenser compatible with?

The Universal Armor Tourniquet Dispenser is designed to fit most standard ID patch areas found on ballistic vests and plate carriers — the ID patch area is a near-universal feature of law enforcement, military, and RTF body armor. It is specifically designed to integrate with TacMed™ carrier platforms including the Responder Plate Carrier. Agencies with non-standard vest configurations should verify that their carrier's ID patch area dimensions match the dispenser's mounting footprint.

Why is the back-mount configuration useful for team operations?

Mounting the tourniquet dispenser on the back of a plate carrier enables a rescuer working behind a downed teammate to access the tourniquet without requiring the casualty to roll over or the rescuer to reach around the body. During drag evacuation — a common movement pattern in Care Under Fire scenarios — the back-mounted dispenser is exactly where the rescuer's hands naturally fall. This positional logic, embedded in TCCC buddy-care doctrine, makes the back-mount a standard practice for RTF teams.

What colors are available and what do the color options mean operationally?

The dispenser is available in Black (UTDK-4), Tan (UTDK-1), Red (UTDK-2), and Orange (UTDK-3). Red and Orange provide high-visibility identification for immediate visual location of the tourniquet under stress. Black and Tan match most tactical vest color schemes for a low-profile appearance. Agencies that use standardized color coding for medical equipment — for example, Orange for tourniquet dispensers as part of a vest-standardization program — should select accordingly.

Does the Universal Armor Tourniquet Dispenser work with CAT tourniquets or only SOF-T?

The dispenser is described as "universal" — it accommodates other tourniquets on the market in addition to the SOF® Tourniquet with which it is sold. CAT Gen 7 tourniquets and similar windlass designs will fit with comparable pull-strap operation. TacMed recommends verifying fit with your specific tourniquet model before operational deployment.

Can the Universal Armor Tourniquet Dispenser be mounted on the back of the carrier?

Yes. TacMed explicitly designed the dispenser for both front and rear mounting. The rear mounting position supports team or buddy deployment — a partner approaching from behind can access the rear-mounted tourniquets without the wearer needing to self-access. Running dispensers front and rear doubles immediately accessible tourniquets on a single carrier.
