FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the difference between the VISM Hard Ballistic Panel (Rectangle) and a standard armor plate?

The VISM Hard Ballistic Rectangle Panel is a flat, rectangular-cut UHMWPE panel optimized for insertion into bags, backpacks, and soft carriers — not traditional plate carrier vest pockets, which are cut for SAPI, Shooter's Cut, or similar profiles. The flat rectangular geometry maximizes protective surface area within straight-sided bag pockets. Standard armor plates feature rounded or angled corner cuts (SAPI, Shooter's Cut) specifically designed for tactical plate carrier vest integration.

What rifle rounds will the VISM Level III+ Rectangle Panel stop?

The VISM Hard Ballistic Rectangle Panel is independently tested to Level III+ standards, rated to defeat 7.62×51mm NATO, 7.62×39mm (standard AK-47 ammunition), and 5.56×45mm (standard AR-15 ammunition). These represent the three most common rifle threats in active shooter and domestic threat scenarios. Note that this is an independently tested Level III+ rating rather than formal NIJ certification; performance is based on accredited lab testing conducted against the listed threats.

How much does the VISM Hard Ballistic Rectangle Panel weigh?

The 10"×12" version weighs approximately 3.5 lbs (1,588 g) and the 11"×14" version weighs approximately 4.4 lbs (1,996 g). These weights are consistent with standard UHMWPE hard panel construction and reflect the full panel weight ready for use. For comparison, a standard AR600 steel plate of the same 10"×12" size typically weighs 5.5–6.5 lbs. The UHMWPE construction delivers a meaningful weight reduction while providing the same Level III+ protection level.

Can the VISM Rectangle Panel be used in a plate carrier vest?

The VISM Rectangle Panel can be used in plate carrier vests that have flat, straight-sided plate pockets large enough to accommodate its dimensions. Many commercial and military plate carriers are cut for SAPI or Shooter's Cut profiles with angled or rounded corners, and the rectangular panel will fit within those pockets (the corners simply will not fill the angled edges). Verify your plate carrier's internal pocket dimensions against the panel size before purchasing for vest use.

Is the VISM Level III+ Rectangle Panel suitable for children to carry in a school backpack?

The 10"×12" panel weighs approximately 3.5 lbs — comparable to a thick hardcover textbook — and is designed with backpack use in mind. The panel itself is safe to carry and provides documented Level III+ rifle protection. Parents and schools should consider whether the added weight is appropriate for a given child's age and physical size. The 10"×12" size provides meaningful torso coverage for most school-aged children when positioned vertically in a backpack against the wearer's back.
