PRODUCT INFORMATION
Tricol Biomed · Chitosan Hemostatic Gauze
ChitoGAUZE XR PRO Hemostatic Gauze
A 3 in × 4 yd Z-fold chitosan-coated gauze for packing severe junctional and compressible extremity hemorrhage. Chitosan works by electrostatic adhesion to red blood cell membranes rather than through the clotting cascade, which is why the manufacturer positions it for anticoagulated and hypothermic patients. The XR designation is the single radiopaque thread woven through the gauze so a retained pack shows on film.
Chitosan — cascade-independent3 in × 4 yd Z-fold1 radiopaque thread5-year shelf life

The radiopaque thread is not for you — it is for the surgeon two echelons later who has to know whether anything was left in the wound.

What's Included

One sealed package containing a single continuous length of Z-folded gauze. No size or configuration options on this listing — the two-thread XR2 PRO is a separate product with its own part number.

The 48-hour dwell time is the manufacturer's stated maximum, not a treatment instruction. The legacy listing also directed three minutes of uninterrupted direct pressure after packing but did not say whether that figure came from the Tricol Biomed instructions for use or from the TCCC Guidelines; it is therefore not reproduced here. Follow the IFU in the package and your own protocol.

Who Carries It

Military medics and 18-series medical sergeants carrying a CoTCCC-recommended hemostatic for care under fire and TACEVAC · Law enforcement and tactical EMS packing high-velocity gunshot and fragmentation wounds on prolonged scenes · EMS and first responders who encounter anticoagulated patients where a cascade-dependent agent is a weaker bet · Trauma services and receiving facilities that benefit from a radiopaque marker at handoff.

Scope of practice. Wound packing with a hemostatic dressing is a trained intervention with a defined skill level, and which wounds are appropriate for packing is a clinical judgement governed by your training, your protocol and your medical direction. This page describes a device and its manufacturer-stated properties. It is not a procedural guide, and it does not substitute for hands-on instruction.
