GUARDIANPACK Ballistic Backpack

A civilian-profile daily-carry backpack built around two 10 by 12 in. rectangular-cut soft ballistic panels — one in a front carrier, one in the rear — that as Level IIIA. The rear panel covers the back as worn; the front panel is pulled into position against the chest. Three neutral colors, 17 by 12 by 4 in. Main compartment, about 4.47 lb with both panels fitted.

The front panel only helps if the pull has been rehearsed. Take it out of the box, deploy it a dozen times, then decide whether the person carrying it can do that under fire.

NIJ's compliance program covers body armor, so the backpack itself is not a certifiable article; the soft panels inside it are body armor, and their test standard edition, model number and testing laboratory are the open questions. What level of ballistic protection does the GUARDIANPACK provide?

The GUARDIANPACK contains 10" × 12" Level IIIA soft armor panels (front and rear) that protect against 9mm FMJ, .357 SIG, .357 Magnum, and .44 Magnum handgun threats as specified under NIJ 0101.06. Level IIIA is not rated against rifle calibers — for rifle-rated protection, see the hard armor plate options available at MED-TAC International.

Can the GUARDIANPACK be used as a regular daily backpack?

Yes. The main compartment measures 17" H × 12" W × 4" D and is sized for laptops, textbooks, documents, and everyday carry items. The ballistic panels are housed in dedicated compartments that do not reduce usable pack space. The pack looks and functions as a standard backpack when not in defensive use.

How do the GUARDIANPACK's ballistic panels deploy in an emergency?

The Level IIIA panels can be rapidly accessed from their compartments and held against the front or rear of the body for immediate coverage, or the closed pack can be held as a standing ballistic barrier between the wearer and a threat.
