Polar Skin Ice Complete Care Backpack
A carry-to-the-patient cooling system: an insulated backpack cooler loaded with a complete Polar Skin Comprehensive Cooling System. This is the Double Patient configuration — two cooling systems in one pack, for scenes where a second casualty is a realistic prospect. Built for athletic training rooms, military field medicine and EMS working heat.
Double Patient configurationItem # 80-0544 · 21.8 lbs24 hr ice retention in 100°F+Backpack-carried

A cooling kit that lives in the truck is a cooling kit that arrives late. The backpack exists so the ice reaches the athlete on the field, not the other way round.

What's Included

Offered in one configuration — Double Patient. Tap the section to read exactly what ships in the pack.

VIEW ▾Double Patient — item # 80-0544 · 21.8 lbs · two Comprehensive Cooling Systems
  • 1× Polar Skin Backpack Cooler — 0.75 in. high-density foam insulation, food-grade leak-proof and sweat-proof liner, black
  • 4× Polar Skin Ice Sheets, Triple Pack (two Triple Packs per Comprehensive Cooling System, two systems in this configuration)
  • 2× Polar Skin C2E Ice Pack Bundle (one per Comprehensive Cooling System)
  • Ice is not included. The cooler is the cold-chain container — it holds ice you supply and load before deployment; the published retention figures assume the pack was prepared to the stated starting temperature.
  • Packaged as a single unit, L 19.5 in. × W 15 in. × H 7.5 in., 21.8 lbs shipped.

Device class Cooling equipment. Not a diagnostic device and not a substitute for core temperature measurement.

Every performance figure above is the manufacturer's, and each one is conditional. The 24-hour ice retention and the 17.5-hour sub-32°F figure both depend on how the pack was prepared — the second explicitly assumes a 0°F starting temperature — and neither is a guarantee for a pack loaded warm on a hot morning. The 0.09°F-per-minute figure describes the cooling system's measured rate under a specific test condition (100°F heat), not a rate you should expect to reproduce or plan a treatment timeline against. The manufacturer's statement that the rate is consistent with NATA and U.S. Army heat illness protocols is a comparison to a published guideline, not an endorsement by either body. Cooling thresholds, target core temperatures, when to start, when to stop, and how core temperature is measured are clinical decisions set by your medical direction, your governing body's heat illness policy and your training.

▾Who Carries It

Athletic trainers and sports medicine staff covering practices and competition in heat, where exertional heat illness is the predictable emergency and cooling has to start where the athlete drops · Military field medicine and unit medics running training cycles in hot climates · EMS and event medical teams at endurance races, marches and outdoor mass-gathering events · Industrial and wildland safety officers supporting crews working long shifts in heat · Any team whose cooling capability currently lives in a fixed treatment station and needs it to move to the patient instead.

The Double Patient configuration exists for a specific reason: heat illness at an organized event rarely presents alone, and a second casualty while the first is still being cooled is a foreseeable scenario. Buy the capacity you would actually need at once, not the capacity you would need on an average day. Prepare and load the pack before the event, not on arrival — the published retention figures assume a cold start, and a pack loaded warm will not hold. Recognizing exertional heat stroke, deciding to cool, measuring core temperature, setting a target and deciding when to stop are clinical judgments governed by your licensure, your medical direction and your organization's heat illness policy. This equipment supports that decision; it does not make it.
