The abdominal extender closes a gap in standard ballistic-vest coverage: the lower abdominal region below the main front panel. Standard soft-armor vests are sized to protect the cardiac and pulmonary zones — the heart, lungs, and great vessels — but the lower abdomen (bowel, bladder, abdominal aorta, and iliac vessels) is not covered by the primary front panel in most configurations. In active-threat scenarios, rounds entering the lower abdomen can produce life-threatening hemorrhage from vascular injury and serious organ trauma.
