The original flexible rescue stretcher for confined-space, high-angle, technical and land rescue. Flat it rolls into a 9 in. backpack; wrapped around a secured patient it goes rigid and slides through doorways, rubble and shafts where a rigid basket jams. Made in the USA.

A rigid basket needs a clear path and a full team. The Sked® needs a doorway and two rescuers — which is what a confined space actually gives you.

SKEDCO recommends formal confined-space, packaging and rigging training before operational use. High-angle, vertical and helicopter operations require rigging competency. Maintain spinal precautions as clinically indicated; the Oregon Spine Splint II (SK-300 series) can be used inside the Sked® for immobilization in confined spaces.

What makes the Sked® stretcher different from a standard litter?

The Sked® is made from flexible plastic that wraps around the patient like a cocoon, becoming rigid once the patient is packaged inside. This unique property allows it to protect patients during extrication through confined spaces — collapsed structures, caves, industrial entrapments — where a rigid flat litter cannot be maneuvered. Standard litters are flat platforms appropriate for ground carries; the Sked® is a technical rescue packaging system.

Can the Sked® be used for helicopter hoisting?

Yes. The SK-200 Basic Rescue System is equipped for horizontal hoisting by helicopter using the included horizontal lift slings, and for vertical hoisting in confined spaces using the vertical lift sling. The SKEDCO Sked® has a documented history of helicopter rescue operations across military and civilian contexts worldwide.

What is the difference between the Cobra Buckle and Steel Buckle variants?

Both variants are functionally identical — same stretcher body, same accessories, same rescue capability. Cobra Quick Release Buckles enable faster patient packaging and single-handed release, reducing the time to package a critical patient. Traditional Steel Buckles are the original Sked® fastener, familiar to rescue teams trained on the original system. Choose based on team training standard and preference for deployment speed.

Does the Sked® Basic Rescue System price include shipping?

Yes. The listed price for the Sked® Basic Rescue System includes bulky item freight shipping within CONUS (Continental United States). The Sked® qualifies as a bulky item due to its rolled dimensions when stored in the Cordura backpack, requiring freight rather than standard parcel shipping.

What accessories are compatible with the Sked® SK-200?

The SK-200 is compatible with the full SKEDCO accessory ecosystem, including the CO2 Inflatable Float Logs and Rapid Deployment System components for water rescue, flotation kits, extended handles, and conversion kits.
