PRODUCT INFORMATION
Combat Medical Systems · Intraosseous Access
T.A.L.O.N.™ 7-Site Intraosseous (IO) Starter Set
A manual, non-powered intraosseous needle system built to reach all seven standard IO sites from one kit — sternum, both proximal humeri, both proximal tibiae, both distal tibiae. The peripheral needle is 15 gauge × 38.5 mm; a separate 16 ga × 23.6 mm stainless sternal locator serves the sternal site. No battery, no driver required, and compatible with the EZ-IO® powered driver. SKU 80-081, NSN 6515-01-642-7919.

The sternal site is the reason this kit exists — it stays reachable through body armour when a limb is not, and it needs its own locator, not a longer needle.

Indications, insertion depth, flow rates, site selection criteria and contraindications are set by the manufacturer instructions for use, your medical direction and your protocol. Sternal insertion in particular requires trained landmark identification.

▾Who Carries It

Combat medics, 18D and SOF medical personnel needing sternal IO access on a casualty in body armour and lower-extremity trauma · Flight and critical-care paramedics carrying a manual backup to a powered driver · Prolonged field care teams where battery life and driver availability cannot be assumed · Agencies cross-trained on the EZ-IO® platform wanting a compatible manual system.

Scope of practice. Intraosseous access is an invasive procedure restricted to providers trained and credentialed for it under a physician medical director. Which site to use, when IO is indicated over peripheral IV, and what may be infused through it are clinical decisions governed by your protocol and the manufacturer IFU.
