What is the TacMed Patrol Trauma Response Kit and who is it designed for?

The TacMed™ Patrol Trauma Response Kit (PTRK) by Tactical Medical Solutions is a belt-worn or MOLLE-mounted law enforcement and EMS trauma kit engineered specifically for on-scene point-of-wounding care by solo or paired officers. At 7" × 4" × 3" and 14 oz fully loaded, it is sized for the duty belt where it remains accessible by the officer's own hands regardless of body position. The kit addresses the three leading causes of preventable traumatic death — extremity hemorrhage (SOFTT-W tourniquet), junctional wound packing (compressed gauze or QuikClot® Combat Gauze LE), and tension pneumothorax (FoxSeal chest seals).

What is included in the TacMed Patrol Trauma Response Kit?

The PTRK includes one SOF® Tactical Tourniquet Wide (SOFTT-W) in Black or Rescue Orange, one Esmark bandage (latex-free, non-woven elastic for pressure dressing or improvised tourniquet), one Compressed Gauze or QuikClot® Combat Gauze LE (your choice at configuration), one FoxSeal Occlusive Dressing pack of two (adhesive chest seals covering both entry and exit wounds), and one pair of nitrile gloves stored in a separate internal compartment. The internal divider keeps the tourniquet independently accessible without opening the main supply area.

Why is there a divider separating the tourniquet from the rest of the kit contents?

In real-world patrol use, officers most often need the tourniquet first and independently — either for immediate self-application to an injured limb or for rapid application to a downed officer or civilian. Pouches without internal dividers require opening the main compartment and searching through supplies while managing the casualty. The PTRK's divider keeps the SOFTT-W in a dedicated independently accessible section so it can be extracted in a single focused motion without disturbing or exposing the remaining kit contents. This reduces time-to-tourniquet and maintains supply organization for subsequent interventions.

Should I choose compressed gauze or QuikClot Combat Gauze LE, and what is the difference?

The QuikClot® Combat Gauze LE configuration is strongly recommended for patrol officers due to the prevalence of junctional wounds — injuries to the groin, axilla, and neck from ballistic trauma — where tourniquets cannot be applied. Kaolin-impregnated hemostatic gauze, the current CoTCCC standard for wound packing, initiates clot formation within minutes when combined with direct manual pressure, and is the clinically appropriate tool for these wound locations. Standard compressed gauze is appropriate for basic wound packing where hemostatic augmentation is not required. Both configurations include identical pouches, tourniquet, chest seals, and gloves.

Can the Patrol Trauma Response Kit be expanded or upgraded?

Yes. The PTRK is designed as a scalable platform. An optional pouch-attaching strap allows the standalone PTRK to accept and attach the LAPD Kit, Patrol Rifle Response Kit, or standard Drop Leg Kit, creating a combined medical and mission-support platform on the same carry system. This modular design allows a law enforcement officer's kit to grow with their assignment and training without purchasing an entirely new system. Configuration variants (SKUs -1 through -8) cover all combinations of color (Black or Rescue Orange), gauze type, and whether the pouch-attaching strap is included.
