UNO Traction Splint

A modular polymer splint frame whose entire surface is hook-and-loop, so it adjusts steplessly to a limb instead of coming in sizes, and so several frames join to each other for a longer span. 0.91 lbs per frame, folds flat or into a cylinder, and straps to the outside of a bag. Despite the traction-splint name, the UNO is a modular immobilization frame, not a traction device: there is no traction strap, no ratchet, no pole and no distraction mechanism. Splint selection, joint position, neurovascular checks and reassessment are clinical decisions.

EMS and rescue crews carrying one adaptable splint instead of a set of fixed-format ones. Scope of practice. Splinting, joint positioning and neurovascular assessment before and after immobilization are performed to the level your training and protocol authorize. Suspected spinal, pelvic and open injuries carry their own handling rules.

What is the UNO Traction Splint and how is it different from traditional splints?

The UNO is a modular polymer splinting system whose entire frame surface is covered in hook-and-loop straps, allowing multiple UNO units to be attached to each other and to standard TCCC equipment. Unlike traditional fixed-format splints that are designed for specific injuries or limb sizes, the UNO's stepless adjustment and modular connectivity allow it to adapt to any limb size, injury type (upper limbs, lower limbs, head, neck, pelvis), and multi-casualty scenario.

Can multiple UNO units be connected together?

Yes. The full-surface hook-and-loop coverage on the UNO frame allows any number of UNO units to attach to each other, creating a longer splinting span for larger fractures or for connecting splints across multiple injury sites. The three-pack provides three units that can work independently or together for multi-patient or multi-limb splinting scenarios.

Is the UNO compatible with TCCC equipment?

Yes. The UNO is specifically designed to remain compatible with tourniquets, intraosseous needles, wound dressings, larynx masks, spine boards, intubation tubes, tracheostomy tubes, and cervical collar splints. This compatibility ensures that applying the UNO does not compromise ongoing TCCC care or restrict access to life-saving interventions.

How compact is the UNO for kit carry?

The UNO is extremely compact — it can be packed into a flat frame (21.5 × 10.55 × 1.5 in. packaged) or rolled into a cylindrical tube. It can also be strapped to the outside of trauma bags and backpacks. The three-pack weighs approximately 2.7 lbs total, covering squad-level multi-casualty splinting needs in a very small footprint.
