Everything for a sterile Foley placement in a field setting, in seven ounces: a silicone-coated 2-way catheter, ChloraPrep swabsticks, a 10 cc sterile-water syringe for the balloon, a 1000 ml leg bag, surgical gloves, a fenestrated drape and a moisture-proof underpad. Built for the long hold — the casualty who cannot be evacuated inside the golden hour. A clinician-scope kit. NAR 83-0020.

Over a long hold, an inability to void is not a comfort problem. It can mean urethral injury, a neurogenic bladder from spinal trauma, or a bladder distending under large-volume resuscitation.

Kit Contents

One configuration, eight line items — the catheter and drainage set, then the sterile field and prep. Every item here supports a provider-scope procedure; read the specification note. Tap a section.

Use case Prolonged casualty care / field care — provider scope

No item in this kit carries CoTCCC recommendation status: the CoTCCC recommended-device list covers tourniquets, hemostatics and thoracic devices, and a urinary catheter set is not on it. Prolonged Field Care guidance addresses urinary management, but that is guidance on a procedure rather than a recommendation attached to this product. Foley catheterization is a provider-scope clinical procedure. Deploy this kit only within your own training, credentialing and scope of practice — physicians, PAs and NPs under their licences; RNs under nursing scope; 68W/18D medics under prolonged-field-care authorization; EMTs and paramedics under state-specific scope. One data gap to resolve before ordering: the source page does not state the French size of the catheter in this SKU, and refers vaguely to sizing varying by variant on a listing that has only one. Confirm the size before you buy against a clinical requirement.

Who Carries It

SOF and military medics — 18D and Corpsmen holding casualties past the point where evacuation was supposed to happen · PAs, NPs and physicians practising austere or expedition medicine within scope · Advanced EMS on long transports, where a catheterized casualty on large-volume fluids needs output tracked rather than guessed · Sustainment and prolonged-care modules, where 7 oz buys a capability that cannot be improvised.

Indications that put this kit in the pack: an unconscious or TBI casualty who cannot void, spinal injury affecting urinary function, a burn casualty whose fluid resuscitation is titrated to urine output, and any prolonged hold on IV fluids. It is a monitoring tool as much as a management one — output is one of the few field measurements that tells you whether resuscitation is working.
