Handle ceramic with more care than steel or polyethylene. A plate dropped onto a hard surface can be compromised with no visible mark, so store plates flat and supported, build a drop-reporting rule into your armor policy, and orient the ceramic strike face outward every time it is loaded. Hard armor is a wear item. Inspect a plate after any ballistic strike, hard crush or significant drop and replace it if there is any doubt, and record the in-service date when it is issued.
