What is a shelter-in-place kit and when is it used?

A shelter-in-place kit is staged inside locked rooms (classrooms, offices, conference rooms) for use when an active threat prevents occupants from leaving to access hallway bleeding control stations. It ensures trauma supplies are available inside the room throughout a lockdown.

How is this different from the Mojo® Public Access Trauma Station?

The Public Access Trauma Station (87-600 series) is designed for hallway wall-mount installation as a primary public access point. The Shelter in Place Kit (87-300 series) is designed for in-room staging as a backup resource when evacuation to the hallway station is not possible.

Is this kit appropriate for classroom deployment?

Yes — this is one of its primary use cases. K-12 and higher education institutions deploy these inside individual classrooms so teachers can treat a bleeding student without opening the locked door or leaving the shelter area.

Does the kit include a wall-mount case?

Verify with MED-TAC at time of purchase. The Shelter in Place Kit is designed for in-room staging, which may be in a cabinet, desk drawer, or attached to the wall inside the room.

What is the tourniquet included?

How many casualties can the Mojo® Shelter in Place Kit treat?

Each kit contains three vacuum-sealed Individual Trauma Kits, allowing simultaneous treatment of up to three casualties. The Intermediate and Advanced tiers include enhanced supplies for prolonged care scenarios where EMS response is significantly delayed.

Is the Mojo® Shelter in Place Kit designed for untrained users?

Yes. All components follow the MARCH™ system with color-coded, icon-labeled supplies that guide users through the correct intervention sequence. The TMT® tourniquet supports self-aid and buddy-aid application. Stop the Bleed training is strongly recommended for anyone responsible for staging or using this kit.

What is the difference between the three Shelter in Place Kit levels?

Basic: Three IFAKs with TMT® tourniquet and Celox™ Rapid gauze — core hemorrhage control. Intermediate: Three IFAKs with additional tools for extended treatment. Advanced: Three IFAKs with the most comprehensive supplies for high-risk or multiple-casualty environments. Match the tier to your site's risk level and staff training.

Where should the Shelter in Place Kit be stored within a facility?

Pre-position in each classroom, office, or secure zone — not just at entrances. During a lockdown, occupants cannot access a corridor cabinet. The bag format allows it to be stored in a closet, filing cabinet, or on a wall hook inside the room for immediate access when external movement is not possible.
