SWAT-T™ Tourniquet

A 4 oz elastic polyisoprene band that works as a tourniquet, a pressure dressing and an elastic bandage, applied by the Stretch, Wrap And Tuck method with a printed diamond pattern that elongates to show the band is at tension. No windlass, no rigid body — which is why it reaches limbs and anatomy a windlass device cannot. Black and Orange.

Small-limb use	The manufacturer states the elastic design is effective on small limbs, including children and working dogs, where a windlass device requires a minimum limb diameter. That is a manufacturer statement about the device, not a paediatric or veterinary protocol — no patient age, weight or size range is published here and none should be inferred.
CoTCCC status	Not CoTCCC-recommended. CoTCCC's recommended limb tourniquets are windlass devices — the C-A-T®, SOF-T Wide and TMT among them — and the SWAT-T is not on that list. Safeguard's own positioning and the store's legacy copy both describe it as an adjunct or secondary device: for junctional and small-limb applications a rigid tourniquet cannot address, and as a pressure dressing. For extremity arterial haemorrhage, a CoTCCC-recommended windlass tourniquet is the primary device.

Cited literature	The store's legacy page cited a 2019 randomised trial (McCarty et al.) among comparative lay-responder tourniquet studies that included the SWAT-T. The citation is reproduced as given; no result or conclusion from it is stated here.

Read the CoTCCC row before buying this as a primary tourniquet. It is not one, the manufacturer does not claim it is one, and the reason to carry it is the set of applications a windlass device cannot cover — plus the fact that one item does the work of three.

EMS and public-access bleeding-control programmes whose patient population includes children, where an elastic band scales to a limb a windlass device cannot occlude · Tactical and military medics carrying it as the secondary device beside a C-A-T or TMT, for high inguinal and axillary anatomy · K9 handlers and working-dog units · Everyday carry, at 4 oz flat-folded to pocket size · Anyone building a kit by weight where one item covering tourniquet, pressure dressing and elastic wrap is worth three separate ones.

Tourniquet application is a trained skill performed within your scope of practice and under local protocol, and this page is not a technique guide. The manufacturer's own operating notes are worth repeating in outline: an extremity device goes on the proximal third of the limb, never over a joint, and hemostasis is monitored after application. Where your protocol calls for a tourniquet on extremity arterial bleeding, reach for the CoTCCC-recommended windlass device first.

Is the SWAT-T CoTCCC-recommended?

The SWAT-T is not currently on the CoTCCC recommended tourniquet list as a primary extremity tourniquet. CoTCCC recommends windlass-style tourniquets (C-A-T, SOFTT-W, and TMT) as primary limb tourniquets. The SWAT-T's role is as a junctional device, pressure dressing, elastic bandage, and backup tourniquet for limbs where windlass devices cannot be applied — including pediatric and K9 patients and high inguinal/axillary anatomy.

Can the SWAT-T be applied with one hand?

The SWAT-T's Stretch, Wrap, and Tuck method can be performed one-handed with practice, but it is generally considered easier to apply with two hands. For self-application in extremity hemorrhage where the windlass style is effective, a CoTCCC-recommended windlass tourniquet (C-A-T, SOFTT-W, TMT) is typically preferred. The SWAT-T's primary self-application advantage is in pressure dressing and wrap applications.
