What is the 6:8 Medical Mini Trauma Bandage and what is it for?

It is a compact sterile pressure dressing, part number MTB-01T, built for extremity bleeding control in space-constrained kits. An absorbent wound pad is permanently bonded to a 4 in x 34 in elastic compression wrap, so a single item delivers both wound coverage and sustained direct pressure without separate tape or a second wrap.

How is it different from a full-size emergency trauma dressing?

Size and scope. At 4 in x 34 in and roughly 2 oz, it fits kits a full-size 6 in dressing will not - ankle kits, EDC pouches, and IFAKs already at capacity. The tradeoff is wrap length: 34 in is well matched to a forearm, lower leg, or smaller-circumference limb, but it is not enough material to build a high-tension circumferential dressing around a large adult thigh. Carry a full-size dressing for large-limb coverage.

Can this replace a tourniquet?

No. A pressure dressing and a tourniquet address different failure modes. If direct pressure and a pressure dressing do not control a true arterial extremity bleed, apply a CoTCCC-recommended tourniquet high and tight on the proximal third of the limb, never across a joint. This bandage does not substitute for that.

Does it contain packing gauze or a hemostatic agent?

No to both. There is no gauze roll stored in the dressing and no clotting agent in the pad. Deep or cavitary wounds must be packed with separate plain or hemostatic gauze first, then this dressing applied over the packing to hold it under compression. Stock packing gauze alongside it.

Can it be used as a chest seal?

No. There is no occlusive plastic layer in this product. Penetrating thoracic trauma requires a dedicated vented chest seal.

What is the shelf life and how should it be rotated?

5 years from date of manufacture. Sterility depends on package integrity - inspect during scheduled kit checks and replace any unit whose packaging is torn, punctured, water-stained, or heat-deformed, regardless of remaining date. Vehicle-mounted and outdoor-stored kits see the harshest thermal cycling and should be inspected more often.

Is it single use?

Yes - single use, single patient use. Once the sterile barrier is opened the unit is committed. Units opened for training must be pulled from operational stock and marked as training material.

Is it suitable for agency and government purchase?
