Hypothermia is a lethal complication in trauma. It is a recognized priority in TCCC because it dramatically worsens the coagulopathy associated with hemorrhagic shock — the “lethal triad” of acidosis, coagulopathy, and hypothermia is a well-documented cause of death in wounded patients whose hemorrhage is otherwise controlled.
