Is the iTClamp CoTCCC recommended?

Yes. The Committee on Tactical Combat Casualty Care (CoTCCC) recommends the iTClamp as a primary treatment modality for hemorrhage control in craniomaxillofacial (CMF) injuries and penetrating neck injuries with external hemorrhage, to be used alongside a CoTCCC-recommended hemostatic dressing and direct manual pressure. This recommendation was established in TCCC Guidelines 19-04 (June 2019), based on 245+ documented field applications and published animal model data.

How does the iTClamp stop bleeding differently from wound packing?

Wound packing applies mechanical pressure to fill the wound cavity and promote clot formation. The iTClamp takes a different approach: it seals the skin edges closed using four pairs of suture needles, creating a fluid-tight seal and a contained hematoma under pressure. The hydrostatic pressure of this hematoma equilibrates with the patient's blood pressure, preventing further blood loss without ongoing manual pressure. This makes the iTClamp uniquely effective as a hands-free hemorrhage control solution.

What wound locations can the iTClamp treat?

The iTClamp is FDA-cleared for temporary hemorrhage control at the extremities, axilla, inguinal areas, scalp, and neck. It is particularly valuable for scalp and neck wounds where tourniquets cannot be applied and where wound packing requires continuous manual pressure. Per the CoTCCC recommendation, its primary indicated use is for craniomaxillofacial (CMF) injuries and penetrating neck injuries with external hemorrhage.

Can the iTClamp be used alongside hemostatic gauze?

Yes. The TCCC skill card for the iTClamp specifically notes that the device can be used in conjunction with wound packing and hemostatic agents. Hemostatic gauze or powder may be applied to the wound before iTClamp placement. The iTClamp may also be placed over a wound that has already had a hemostatic agent applied — the agent does not need to be removed. Additionally, compression binding may be placed over the iTClamp for additional pressure.

How difficult is the iTClamp to apply under stress?

The iTClamp is designed for application by any level of first responder with minimal training.
