MED-TAC 6-in-1 Tactical Trauma Shears

Six rescue functions in one tool that still fits a standard shears pouch — trauma shears, a hardened glass-breaking tip, a recessed seat-belt cutter, a serrated blade, an integrated ruler and a carabiner clip. Fluoride-coated stainless blades resist blood and adhesive; high-impact polymer handles with milled serrations hold grip wet or gloved. 10 oz.

Ten ounces buys the tool back only if the vehicle-extrication functions actually get used — for a duty belt that never sees an MVA, plain 7.5 in shears remain the lighter answer.

▾Specifications

MED-TAC 6-in-1 Tactical Trauma Shears — specifications

Specification	Detail
Vendor	MED-TAC International
Tool count	6-in-1 multi-function
Blade material	Stainless steel with a fluoride non-stick coating — resists adhesion of blood, tissue and adhesives, and reduces friction through heavy fabric
Handle	High-impact polymer with milled surface serrations for grip with gloved, wet or blood-covered hands
Weight	10 oz
Function 1 — Trauma shears	Blunt-tip stainless blades for rapid clothing removal and wound exposure
Function 2 — Glass-breaking tip	Hardened tip for emergency vehicle-window breaching
Function 3 — Seat-belt cutter	Recessed blade, cuts webbing without exposing the edge to the occupant
Function 4 — Serrated blade	General cutting for rope, cord, packaging and tough materials
Function 5 — Ruler	Integrated scale for approximating wound dimensions during documentation
Function 6 — Carabiner clip	Clips to a D-ring, vest or MOLLE webbing
Stated users	EMS, rescue, tactical medical, law enforcement and first responders

Weight comparison, in context: a plain pair of trauma shears runs about 2 oz. This tool is 10 oz and consolidates five further functions — it earns its place in a vehicle response kit, patrol bag or duty-belt setup where those functions are plausible, and not in an ultralight IFAK where they are not.

▾Who Carries It

Law-enforcement patrol officers carrying vehicle-rescue capability on the belt or in the bag · EMS first responders who work MVA extrications and want the glass-breaker and belt-cutter on the same tool as the shears · Firefighters and rescue technicians needing a compact trauma-capable multi-tool · Security and event personnel wanting one pocket tool spanning medical and rescue functions.

Cutting away clothing to expose a wound is within the scope of any responder. Vehicle window breaching and extrication decisions are governed by your agency training and scene authority, not by the tool.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are the 6 tools included in the MED-TAC 6-in-1 Tactical Trauma Shears?

The MED-TAC 6-in-1 Tactical Trauma Shears include: (1) trauma shears with stainless steel blades and safety blunt tips, (2) a hardened glass-breaking tip, (3) a recessed seat belt cutter, (4) a serrated blade for rope and cord cutting, (5) an integrated ruler for wound measurement, and (6) a carabiner clip for attachment to D-rings, MOLLE webbing, or equipment bags. All six functions are integrated into a single compact tool.

Why does the fluoride coating matter on trauma shear blades?

Fluoride-coated non-stick surfaces prevent blood, tissue, and adhesive materials from bonding to the blade surface during use. This reduces friction when cutting through blood-soaked fabric, makes post-use decontamination significantly faster and more thorough, and extends blade edge life by reducing adhesive buildup that can cause micro-abrasion. In tactical and EMS settings where shears are used repeatedly across multiple patient contacts, clean blades and easy maintenance are practical safety considerations.

How does the glass-breaking tip work on vehicle windows?

The hardened tip is designed to deliver a focused point impact to the corner of a tempered glass vehicle window — the most efficient breaking point. Unlike laminated windshield glass, side and rear windows are tempered and shatter on impact from a focused point load. The glass breaker allows responders to breach vehicle windows quickly during extrication without additional tools, making the 6-in-1 shears a self-contained rescue response device.

At 10 oz, are these shears too heavy for an IFAK?

The 10 oz weight is appropriate for a patrol bag, vehicle response kit, or duty belt attachment where multi-function capability justifies the weight. For a primary IFAK where every ounce is budgeted, a dedicated 2 oz pair of standard trauma shears (like the EMI E.T.R.™) is the better choice. The MED-TAC 6-in-1 is optimized for responders who need vehicle rescue capability alongside trauma care — law enforcement, fire-EMS, or security personnel who carry a larger supplemental kit.

Can the carabiner clip on these shears hold significant weight?

The integrated carabiner clip is designed for attachment and carry convenience — clipping to D-rings, gear loops, MOLLE webbing, or bag exterior points. It is not a load-bearing carabiner rated for fall arrest or life safety loads. Its function is to keep the shears accessible and prevent loss during dynamic movement, not to support human body weight. For climbing or rescue rigging applications, use a rated load-bearing carabiner separately.
