PRODUCT INFORMATION

Airway Management — Collapsible Adult Resuscitator

A full 1,600 mL adult BVM that stores at the size of a hockey puck.

The Micro BVM Pocket BVM is a single-patient-use adult bag-valve-mask that collapses into a rigid twist-top case measuring 134 mm across and 63 mm tall. Deployed, it is a full-size resuscitator — 1,600 mL bag, transparent adult face mask, patient valve, and 2,600 mL oxygen reservoir. Stowed, it takes roughly 75% less cube than a conventional adult BVM, needs no pre-inflation, and fits an IFAK, a cargo pocket, or a jump kit side pouch.

The limiting factor on BVM readiness is almost never clinical skill — it is cube space. A conventional adult BVM is bulky enough that it gets left in the rig, in the trunk, or on the wall. Then a patient stops breathing in a hallway, a parking lot, or a stairwell, and the gap between ventilating at minute zero and ventilating at minute four is decided entirely by who had a bag within arm's reach.

When your patient stops breathing, is the BVM in the room — or in the vehicle?

A pocket mask keeps you in the game. It does not give you a reservoir, it does not give you an oxygen inlet, and it puts your face inches from the patient's airway. The Pocket BVM removes the space excuse without downgrading the device: twist the case, pull the bag open, seat the mask, ventilate. Full adult bag, full reservoir, no assembly, no pre-inflation.

Built To Be Carried, Not Stored

Full-Size Bag, Collapsed

1,600 mL deployed. The size reduction comes from folding the bag into the case, not from shrinking the bag. You do not trade capability for cube.

500–600 mL Stroke Volume

One-handed compression delivers the adult tidal volume range current resuscitation guidance actually targets — not the over-ventilation a full-sized bag invites under stress.

2,600 mL Oxygen Reservoir

Connect flow and delivered oxygen runs from 55% at 2 L/min to 100% at 8 L/min per manufacturer testing. The reservoir ships attached and folded with the bag.

Rigid Twist-Top Case

Sealed hard case protects the bag, mask, and valve in a bag that gets thrown, dropped, and handed between providers. No stuff sack, no vacuum pouch to tear open.

PEEP-Ready Connectors

30 mm male expiratory connector takes a standard PEEP valve. Patient connector is 22 mm male / 15 mm female per ANSI/ISO, so it mates with the airway adjuncts already in your kit.

Assigned NSN

NSN 6515-01-590-8909 with an EN ISO 10651-4:2002 build standard — orderable through federal supply channels and traceable on a property book.

Know The Limits Before You Stock It

This is an adult device, rated by the manufacturer for patients over 40 kg (88 lb). It is not a pediatric BVM and should not be stocked as one. It is also labeled for single-patient use — refold it for training repetitions all you want, but a bag used on a patient does not go back in the kit. Finally, the device does not solve the actual failure point in BVM ventilation: mask seal. Two-provider seal, correct rate, and controlled volume are trained psychomotor skills. Buy the hardware, then go get the reps.

Who Carries It

Tactical Medics & TEMS — full ventilation capability carried on the operator, not staged with the truck.

Law Enforcement & Patrol — an opioid-overdose response tool that fits a duty bag or a plainclothes go-bag alongside naloxone.

EMS & Flight — a second bag for the second patient, or the primary in a weight-and-cube-constrained rotor or fixed-wing kit.

Austere, Expedition & Cache — sealed hard case survives long storage in a range box, vehicle, vessel, or remote clinic without maintenance.

A Bag Does Not Open An Airway — Build The Rest Of The A

Positive-pressure ventilation through an obstructed airway moves nothing. Adjuncts, suction, and a patent route come first — the bag is what you do once the airway is open.

Carry The Bag, Not The Excuse

Ventilation capability you left in the vehicle is ventilation capability you don't have. Put a full adult BVM in the kit you actually wear. Shipped from a clinician-founded, veteran-led team.

Which Pocket BVM Configuration Do You Need?

Configuration Bag Color O₂ Line Case Best For
Pocket BVM Clear Not included 134 × 63 mm IFAKs and patrol bags where an O₂ line already lives with the cylinder
Pocket BVM with O₂ Tubing Clear 2 m (6 ft 6 in.) included 134 × 63 mm Self-contained airway module — bag and O₂ line in one package
Pocket BVM Tactical Black, non-reflective Not included 134 × 63 mm Low-light and night operations where a translucent bag creates a signature

When to Choose the Pocket BVM

  • On-Person Carry — 450 g and a 134 × 63 mm footprint means the bag rides in the IFAK, the cargo pocket, or the plate carrier admin pouch instead of staying with the vehicle.
  • Opioid Overdose Response — naloxone reverses the drug, but the patient still needs ventilation while it takes effect. Pairs directly with a duty-carried naloxone kit.
  • Weight- and Cube-Constrained Kits — flight bags, ruck-carried aid bags, motorcycle and marine units where a conventional BVM's cube gets it cut from the packing list.
  • Second-Patient Redundancy — a spare bag that costs almost nothing in space, for the MCI where you have two apneic patients and one conventional BVM.
  • Federal and Agency Procurement — assigned NSN and an EN ISO build standard make it orderable through supply channels and defensible on a property book.

Pocket BVM vs. The Alternatives

  • vs. a CPR Pocket Mask — a pocket mask is smaller and cheaper, but it delivers exhaled air at roughly 16% oxygen, has no reservoir, and puts the rescuer's face at the airway. The Pocket BVM gives you room-air ventilation at minimum and up to 100% FiO₂ with flow connected. If cube is the only constraint, carry the mask; if capability matters, carry the bag.
  • vs. a Conventional Adult BVM — a standard BVM costs less, needs no unfolding, and is fully reusable in a rig. It also occupies roughly four times the cube, which is why it stays in the vehicle. The Pocket BVM is the one that comes with you, not the one that replaces the ambulance bag.
  • vs. the O₂ Tubing Configuration — identical device and identical case dimensions; the only difference is a packed 2 m supply line and a separate NSN. If your cylinder already carries a line, this configuration is the correct buy. If it doesn't, buy the tubing version.
  • vs. the Tactical Configuration — same performance, black non-reflective bag. Buy Tactical if you operate under NODs or work night callouts where a translucent bag catches light. Buy this one otherwise; the clear bag lets you see bag fill and recoil.

Frequently Asked Questions — Pocket BVM

Q: Is 1,600 mL the volume delivered to the patient?

A: No, and this is the most common misread of the spec sheet. 1,600 mL is the capacity of the resuscitator bag. Delivered stroke volume with a one-handed compression is 500–600 mL — the adult tidal volume range current resuscitation guidance targets. The 2,600 mL figure is the oxygen reservoir, not a delivered volume.

Q: Does the smaller form factor mean weaker ventilation?

A: No. Deployed, it is a full-size 1,600 mL adult bag. The size reduction comes from folding the bag into the case for storage, not from shrinking it. Over-ventilation is a far more common field failure than under-delivery from an adequately sized bag, and that is a rate-and-technique problem, not a hardware problem.

Q: Can I use it on a child?

A: No. The manufacturer rates it for adult patients over 40 kg (88 lb). It is not a pediatric device and should not be substituted for one. Stock a pediatric BVM separately if your response profile includes children.

Q: Does it work with supplemental oxygen?

A: Yes. With the 2,600 mL reservoir attached and flow connected, manufacturer testing shows 55% delivered oxygen at 2 L/min rising to 100% at 8 L/min. Standard prehospital practice with a reservoir is 15 L/min — if the reservoir collapses on every squeeze, your flow is too low. This configuration does not include a supply line; the O₂ Tubing version packs a 2 m line in the same case.

Q: Will it take a PEEP valve?

A: Yes. The 30 mm male expiratory connector accepts standard PEEP valves, and the patient connector is 22 mm male / 15 mm female per ANSI/ISO, so it mates with supraglottic airways and ET tubes.

Q: Can it be reused?

A: It is designed and labeled for single-patient use. It can be refolded into the case for training repetitions, but a device used on a patient should not be returned to service.

Q: Is it CoTCCC-recommended?

A: The Committee on Tactical Combat Casualty Care does not publish brand-specific recommendations for bag-valve-mask resuscitators the way it does for tourniquets and hemostatic dressings. Any vendor claiming a BVM is "TCCC approved" is overstating. What is verifiable: this device carries an assigned NSN (6515-01-590-8909) and is built to EN ISO 10651-4:2002.

Q: How hard is it to refold after training?

A: It refolds, but expect a learning curve the first time. Pull the bag open slowly by the hard end plates rather than yanking the reservoir or the valve. To restow, the mask-side folds in twice, the reservoir side once, the mask sits valve-down on top, then compress and twist the lid closed. Practice it before you need it.
