Scope of practice. Active cooling of a suspected heat casualty is performed under your organization's heat-illness protocol and, where one exists, under medical direction. Cold-water immersion remains the reference standard in most heat-stroke protocols; this is a cooling adjunct, not a substitute for the training and medical direction your program requires.
