A 36-inch aluminium-core splint sandwiched in closed-cell foam that is pliable flat and rigid the moment you bend a C-curve into it. How does the SAM Splint II gain its structural rigidity when it's made of flexible aluminum?

The SAM Splint II uses the C-Curve™ principle: in flat form, the aluminum-foam construction is pliable. When molded into a curved arc (C-curve, reverse C, or T-curve), the resulting geometry creates exponential structural strength — the same principle that gives arched bridges their load-bearing capacity. This allows the splint to firmly immobilize fractures without additional rigid materials.

Does the SAM Splint II have a military NSN?

Yes. The OD Green Military version of the SAM Splint II carries NSN 6515-01-494-1951, confirming adoption in U.S. Department of Defense medical supply chains. It is carried in military individual first aid kits, combat medic bags, and battalion aid station supply sets.

The standard SAM Splint II (SKU MEDTAC1046) is the splint only and is used with any available bandage or wrap material to secure the molded splint in place.
