Sawyer Arborist Compact Trauma Kit
A chainsaw injury produces catastrophic limb hemorrhage in seconds, and EMS response to a remote work site routinely exceeds the survivable window. This kit mounts on the harness or belt, rips away one-handed, and opens flat so every component is laid out in sequence — CoTCCC-recommended TMT® tourniquet, Celox™ Rapid, deep packing gauze, pressure dressing and the tools to work them.
Harness or belt mountTMT® tourniquetCelox™ Rapid hemostaticRip-away, one-handed

The ANSI Z308.1 workplace first-aid standard does not call for a tourniquet, a hemostatic or packing gauze — the three interventions that decide a saw injury.

Kit Contents

One configuration, ten line items, grouped by the sequence they are used in. Internal elastic loops hold every item in position through climbing and physical work. Tap a section.

CoTCCC recommendation applies to the TMT® tourniquet and Celox™ Rapid. It does not extend to the packing gauze sets, the Battle Bandage, the Slishman wrap or the tools. Celox™ Rapid, Celox™ Rapid Ribbon and Celox™ Gauze are different products with different SKUs; this kit contains Celox™ Rapid. Note what is not here and why: no chest seal, no airway adjunct and no decompression needle, because the injury profile this kit is built around is extremity hemorrhage and deep laceration, and advanced items in untrained hands are a hazard rather than a capability. Two practical points — the one-handed rip-away design exists because the responder may be the casualty with one arm working, and the whistle exists because an arborist may be aloft and out of sight when it happens. Everything here still assumes hemorrhage-control training; carrying a tourniquet is not the same as knowing when and how tight.

Who Carries It

Arborists and tree climbers working aloft, where the kit has to be on the harness rather than in the truck · Sawyers and logging crews operating past the reach of a timely EMS response · Tree-care companies upgrading a crew first-aid provision that was never designed for a saw injury · Any chainsaw operator whose current kit is bandages, antiseptic wipes and eye wash.

Working sequence for a saw injury to a limb: tourniquet high and tight on the extremity first and note the time, then pack a deep wound with the Celox™ Rapid and the packing gauze under firm sustained pressure, cover and compress with the Battle Bandage, and get the whistle going so the rest of the crew converges. These notes are general reference only and are not a substitute for accredited hemorrhage-control training.
