The front and rear pockets take any standard 10 in. x 12 in. Hard armor plate — Level III or Level IV, ceramic, UHMWPE or steel — or a soft armor insert. 3.0 lb unloaded keeps the baseline light. The carrier itself holds no ballistic rating; the NIJ level, the test standard and its edition, and any stand-alone or in-conjunction-with condition belong to the plates or panels the buyer installs and verifies against the NIJ Compliant Products List. The soft armor pairing is the NcStar / VISM Ballistic Soft Panel, part number BSC1012, Shooter's Cut - the contoured panel that matches this carrier's Shooter's Cut pocket. It is a different product from the VISM Soft Ballistic Panel (Rectangle), part numbers BSF-810, BSF-1012 and BSF1114, which is a flat rectangle specified for bags and stated by its manufacturer as not for plate carrier use. Order a panel by part number and cut, and select armor on the armor manufacturer's own documentation rather than on a carrier listing.

What is laser-cut MOLLE and how is it different from traditional MOLLE?

Traditional MOLLE (Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment) uses sewn nylon webbing rows stitched to the carrier fabric, creating elevated rows through which MOLLE-compatible pouch slots are threaded. Laser-cut MOLLE instead cuts precise slots directly through the carrier's outer fabric layer, creating a flush surface that accepts MOLLE accessories without protruding webbing. Laser-cut provides a cleaner profile when slots are unoccupied, slightly lighter weight, and comparable accessory compatibility.

What size plates does the NcStar 10x12 carrier accept?

The NcStar Laser Cut Plate Carrier is designed for 10"×12" hard armor plates (Shooter's Cut or SAPI-compatible format) in both front and rear plate pockets. This is the most common plate size in current tactical use. The pockets also accommodate 10"×12" soft armor inserts such as the NcStar VISM BSC1012 Level IIIA panels. Plates with profiles that significantly exceed 10"×12" (such as 11"×14") will not fit this carrier.
